A big free agent slugger on the market.

The White Sox decided to buy out the contract of Frank Thomas and make him a free agent. This is a good sign for the White Sox. Now they have more cash to re-sign Konerko. For any American League teams looking for a big bat in the lineup to play DH, he'll be a very good fit. Here's the article:

By "big" I hope you are referring to his size and not playing ability.

He still has ability. The only issue is his health. His BA may not be like it used to but he hit 12 HR's in 32 games. Maybe a team can roll the dice and hit 7-11. The Sox did it with Jermaine Dye this season.

I hope you mean the Big hurt ability at this point in his career, because Frank was one of the best baseball players I saw, and he is a HOF.

He could be a pretty good bargain for some teams low risk/high reward type of move.

I think it's time for Frank to to call it a career.

Yeah, me too. I wouldnt mind Atlanta coming and picking him up. Bench offense is always nice.

I could see the Rangers trying to get him. Small park so it's easier to pound out the homers and he might be cheaper than Nevin.

Do you really think I was referring to his playing ability during his prime? Give me a break.

The guy could never really play defense and now he is even more hampered by age and a fragile body so I doubt any NL team pursues him. In fact, he's played less than 60 games in the field (1B) in the past five years.

Frank is done. He really should hang it up.

Dye pretty much hit his career averages in nearly every category this past season. I'd hardly say they rolled a "7-11" with him.

I think Thomas is done as well. This kinda reminds me of what happened to Dave Stieb. He was clearly the best pitcher the Jays ever had and when they won it all in '92 he couldn't be there to contribute. It was kinda sad. What made it even sadder was that Derek Bell and someone else (can't remember) went and trashed Stieb's locker while celebrating.

Anywho I think Thomas should retire but if he decides to play another year he MIGHT be a good pickup as a DH.

His body is MASSIVE. I think having to carry that 280 pound frame is taking a toll on his legs. One of my favorite players though. He was so strong. His homeruns looked as if he hit them using one arm sometimes.

i agree with you if the only alternative is going to a team besides the white sox, but i read the article on the sox website and theres a good possibility that the sox will attempt to sign him to an incentive laden contract for next year
