    Piazza in a Jays uniform?

A report from RSN says that Piazza's agent has contacted JP Ricciardi about his client coming to Toronto. JP reportedly said that it's too soon to count anybody out and the Jays will look into it.

Now this is just my opinion but this would be a GREAT move for the Jays to make if the price is right. Piazza is obviously looking to go to an AL team due to his age and being able to play DH. The Jays don't really have anyone that can really fill the DH role and Piazza would be PERFECT!

Yes I know his numbers have declined but he still has pop in his bat and can sub in for Gregg Zaun. Piazza would give the Jays a little more pop in the lineup while also contributing as a backup catcher.

I hope JP signs Piazza as this could end up being one of those unheralded moves that pays dividends in the end.

Take him. As long as he doesn't return to the Mets, I'll be fine. He can't play in the NL unless he decides to be a firstbaseman.

Sabremetrics can't dictate everything man. I know his numbers are declining but he can be a valuable guy in terms of being a veteran, a backup catcher and a DH that has some pop in his bat.

Sometimes character and longevity in the game can offset some poor numbers.

I admit i'm a bit of a homer for the Jays but that's the only team that I pull for that i'm that way with. I try to be as objective as I can tho. I think a Piazza signing would be pretty good.

I chuckled when I realized that the Jays might actually want Piazza, in part, for a Catcher. I mean, who else do they have behind the plate besides zaun? Quiroz sucks at hitting...It's pretty much a given that this ISN'T the reason they want him....but still, just the thought of it made me laugh.

I don't care what anyone says about the guy, if you can hit .250 with 19 jacks you got a place on my team....but then, my team is the Mariners.

His power numbers definitely stick out. Some teams (like the jays or mariners for instance) just need some more power in their lineup, so they'll willingly take the low BA.

Re: Piazza in a Jays uniform?

I'm sure Piazza's agent called to try to get a bidding war started.

I would welcome Piazza only if it's a 1 yr deal at a low cost like 3 mil. His AVG, OBP, and OPS has dropped 3 seasons in a row. He couldn't hit a lick on the road this season.

But he still has the ability to hit for power. I wouldn't mind having him catch around 30 games and DH'ing the rest of the time. Either way the Jays need to find another catcher. Unlike most other Jay fans, I would look for a starter. Asking for Zaun to even duplicate his performance this season is wishful thinking. I wouldn't even let Quiroz be the backup because he hasn't even proved himself at AAA. And he's also out of options. If he stays on the 25 man roster and then gets demoted, he has to clear waivers. He's better sticking at AAA first.

The Jays should make a run at Bengie Molina. But this makes far too much sense so you know it won't happen. I wish I was the GM of the Jays. I would turn them into a winner

Re: Piazza in a Jays uniform?

Piazza would be a good signing, but I don't want that to be the big bat that we are lacking. We still need a corner outfielder.

The thing is, if we do acquire another DH, where does that leave Shea. This is a sign that if Piazza is signed, one of the infielders is likely gone. Whether it's 'Lando, Eric Hinske, Koskie or Adams(or even Shea, but that's unlikely). I'd prefer it to be Adams cause I hate his defense. Now we can move Hill to full time SS.

i think he would be a better fit for DH in Baltimore (with the shorter fences).. besides he has gone down hill in terms of hitting - sure he can hit the occasional long ball, but he is declining.. even when he had the rest when he played first 2 years ago he didnt really hit.. risky pickup if the Jays get him..

I think Thomas would be a better option for the Jays. I just don't see Piazza having a great year and we know Thomas, if healthy, can still hit them out.

Sabremetrics or not, his numbers stunk, regardless of longevity or character. Hell, he seems like a cool guy. But that isn't going to help him at bat this year, or any years to follow.

With only a few teams looking for a Second Baseman there will be little market for Hudson. The Blue Jays wll try and trade Eric Hinske and there was a rumor not too long ago about the Twins being interested in re-acquiring Koskie, so the Jays could sign a DH and play Hillenbrand at either 1B/3B.

The Koskie for Mournea trade talk is all BS. It all started from an article written by Bob Elliot or Richard Griffin speculating a trade like that might happen.
