Would it really have been so hard for ESPN to sit Steve Phillips down with someone like Karl Ravech and have him be asked questions like "so, what do the Yankees do about Bernie Williams?" Seriously, these things have to be the single biggest waste of time and money that I have ever seen any network put into a segment.

I love how there are 30 or more reporters there, yet Sal, Schapp, and the black guy are the only ones that get their questions answered each time.
"The most waste of time"...? Apparently you havent seen the rest of the show. Budweiser Hotseat, Coors Light Silver Bullet spotlight, that ridiculous montage of plays set to music, Stuart Scott-isms, etc.

Two of my boys work at ESPN and I guess they sent out a company-wide email asking for extras in these press conferences. Well, there's this one 40-year-old sketchball guy who works there and I guess he was so excited about it and he went around telling everyone about it. Running around the cubicles telling people, "Hey, we can be on TV if we want to be!!" and all this stuff.

So at like 6:20pm or whenever the mock-press conference comes on the air, this sketchball guy's boss is looking around his cubicle and he isn't there. He asks another boss if he's seen the guy and he also says no. Then another guy in the office says, "Hey guys, turn on channel 55." So they turn on SC and the guy is sitting in the crowd at the press conference. Only problem is he didn't ask permission from either of his bosses. So his boss calls down to security at the press conference and tells a guard to grab the guy and kick him out. I guess the guy was heartbroken that they wouldn't let him stay and wouldn't talk to anyone for the rest of the night at work.

Do you think it diminishes any of these "reporters" journalistic credibility? From now on when I see Jeremy Schaap, Ill wondering if hes really acting or if should be taken seriously. So are they actors or journalists? Id like to see if Buster Olney now has acting on his resume.

Well, those are sponsored segments that need to be worked in for $$$$. I'm not disagreeing with you, there is so much schtick involved these days it's silly, but this fake press conference is just dumb. Surely they could have come up with a segment with this guy where he covers each division in baseball per night or something. Have a baseball round table discussing each teams dissapointments, needs, and rumors on what they're up to. Oh well.

I agree it is incredibly dumb...even for a show that is now full of other dumb stuff. It is beyond dumb. Whats next, will meet the press have George Bush impersonators or even Ari Fleischer pretending to be W.? On a slow news day will ABC feature a simulated flood catastrophe?

You know what, I actually think that it does hurt them. I honestly want to know who saw fit to go ahead with this instead of even having someone sit down each night with Steve Phillips and ask him what a team should do from the standpoint of someone who has been a GM in the past. None of this "I," "we," "us" crap they are pulling. Just have Steve Phillips tell me, in his opinion, how a team should handle a situation on their roster and keep the hokey, trite crap out of it.

One thing that I haven't noticed though but would like to know, is Gammons participating in these?

See now having Gammons as the Red Sox GM would be funny to watch. Maybe this is some kind of hazing ritual on Philips.

Gammons probably said hell no to this idiocy. What surprises me is usually Buster Olney and Pedro Gomez are usually pretty reliable and smart guys so I'm surprised they agreed to do this.

I dont think anyone "made" them do it since Olney and Gomez are more important to ESPN tan ESPN is to them so I'm surprised they got stuck looking like fools.
