I still think its going to take something huge to pry Ollie away. They have the depth at pitching but they won't trade him at his lowest value, and they actually believe that he'll improve and help the Pirates this year. They'll be more than happy to go into the season and see what they get from him.

Redman and Wells are trade bait, but I don't think their are suitors lining up for them. Also talks about throwing in Grabow but we'll see what happens

I agree. I think they'll do everything possible to unload Redman, Wells and Grabow before they even think of trading Ollie. The only way Ollie goes IMO is if they get an offer that they can't refuse. Like a very good young 3B.

One rumor I heard was Redman to FL for Mike Lowell. FL pays some of Lowell's contract. I also heard Wells/Grabow were being packaged together and shopped around.

Not exactly Bay related but this is a Pirate thread. The team finalized the 40 man roster for the Rule 5 draft coming up in a couple weeks.

        Contracts bought and added:

        Yurendell DeCaster (INF)
        Javier Guzman (INF)
        Josh Sharpless (RHP)
        Craig Stansberry (INF)

        Designated for Assignment:

        Bobby Hill (INF)
        Jeff Miller (P)
        Tike Redman (OF)
        Micheal Restovich (OF)

Added to the roster from 60 day DL:

        Sean Burnett (LHP)
        John Van Benschoten (RHP)
        Jose Castillo (INF)
        Chris Duffy (OF)

Well I guess this is the official goodbye to Tike Redman. Oh Tike, we hardly knew thee

I wonder if the Pirates can keep Bay in the final year of this contract... I believe the first year is paying him 700K then it escalates to 7M at the last year.

Sure. The main reason the Pirates couldn't pay some larger salaries before is that they were handcuffed with terrible, long-term signings years ago (Derrick Bell, Pat Meares, Kevin Young, Jason Kendall, Benito Santiago).

Now that they're clear of those contracts, they have some money to spend. 7 MIL isn't a problem. Getting a free agent who wants 13-15 MIL is still an issue though.

No real surprises I guess. I thought Jeff Miller was highly thought of in the organization though. Bigger guy with a big fastball. Something we don't have much of. Sharpless is the same way though...

DeCaster, Guzman and Stansberry are all the same type of player. Very odd. They all seem like Bobby Hill, Freddie Sanchez types. I guess time will tell.
