    Bye Bye Florida, hello Vegas?

I'm surprised there hasn't been a thread about this since we have some Marlins fans on here but according to ESPN the Marlins will explore relocation as early as '08. The Marlins have been given permission by MLB to do this.

With No Stadium Deal, Marlins To Explore Move

All I have to say is, this is what happens when Jeffrey Loria owns your team.

Re: Bye Bye Florida, hello Vegas?

So many pros and cons to this idea...personally, and selfishly, I want another damn team in the AL West. Every other league has at least 5 teams, and we are stucvk with 4. It's also one of the toughest leagues there is to work with, if you hadn't noticed the M's, Rangers, and A's struggling as much as they have? I'd love to see the Marlins come west...but on the other hand, switching from NL to AL, changing climates, disregarding current fans....I dunno...whichever team ends up in Las Vegas, if there ever is a team in vegas, there will be alot of night games. I live in Portland, so I wouldn't mind them moving here. There are alot more Baseball fans here than we are given credit for, but at the same time this city is just full of weirdos. When they tried to bring the Expos in, they were saying it was a very "Urban Area"...I don't quite know about that...it's got alot of urban feel to it, but it's mostly just your average city full of freaks and weirdos. the people in charge really don't know how to highlight Portland for a possible Major League Baseball Team....they try and make it look gritty, when what they should be pointing out is -- NIKE, INTEL, ALL RIGHT IN OUR BACKYARD, LOTS OF BUSINESS THAT WILL SELL TICKETS -- but anyway...those are just my gripes...

whatever happens, I'm all for it. This would give Florida's low ammount of Baseball fans a chance to come together and support just one team, a team that needs support and has a good chance of being a great team when this supposed "move" would happen, the Devil Rays. There's not enough Baseball love in Florida for 2 teams. Maybe for one team, methinks.

    Good idea, bad idea....whatever...

This shouold happen... a team in Vegas would be great.

They could then join the AL West and move the Pirates into the NL East so every division will have 5 teams like they should.

hello, you have to have an even number in each league so everyone can play each night

Uhhh, the NL has more teams than the AL does at the moment... How in the hell do you figure that?

Not only that, but those ideas would MAKE IT EVEN.

You can't do that...who would the 15th AL and NL team play each day? Interleague everyday? It has to be like how it is now, 14 in one league and 16 in the other. Scheduling would be impossible.

like zasbury explained for me, you have to have an EVEN number (like 14 and 16), not an EQUAL number, of teams in each league. Therefore everyone can play league games each night.

All i can say about Loria is that even though i dont think he is a smart owner, i have to give it to him, that when his team is in contention (at least in Florida) he's shown he'll spend a little bit of money and make a trade at the deadline that should help the team, he just doesnt spend money wisely in the offseason. The thing that kills the Marlins is that every time they make a signing they backload the contract, i think they still owe pudge a couple million, Delgado got only 4 million last year, now he's owed 48 over 3 years, they paid Mike Hampton almost 8 million per year to pitch for ATL. It's things like that hurt the team and the fan base.....and on the stadium issue in Florida, they won't get one, the idea of building a stadium in downtown Miami is really bad thinking, the majority of there fans come from Borward and Palm Beach.

Yeah he may spend all the money and if he doesn't get what he wants. He throws a fit like hes a two year old. Sorry but, you marlin fans seem to be in denial. People who have followed Loria knew this was bound to happen..

Marlins welcome you are the new age Montreal Expos. You (marlin fans) are in the middle of a rude awakening if Loria doesn't get what he wants.

I dub this "Operation Loria" Have a nice day.

Well "Operation Loria" helped us walk into Yankee Stadium, and take out the Yankees in 03. I can live with that.
