Re: Furcal & Soriano Greatest MIF Ever?

    1. It's that rumor mill time of the year. That trade looks highly unlikely, from the Texas POV.
Seems to me like some Cubs fan decided to make up some fantasy trades and pass them off as fact through "anonymous sources close to the situation".

    2. Even if the Cubs did sign Furcal and trade for Soriano, that would not be the "greatest middle-infield ever". Soriano is notorious for his poor defense. His offensive numbers are very nice for a rotisserie baseball league, but in reality, they're not that fantastic. His on-base numbers are quite dreadful to look at. For a 2B, he one of the best hitters around, but defense counts a lot at 2B, and he's not so hot there.
Furcal is a pretty kickass defender (from the little I've seen) at SS, but he too struggles in the on-base dept. Obviously, he has great speed and a little bit of pop, but that doesn't make him one of the greatest ever.

    3. No team in their right mind should give Rafael Furcal a 6 year deal worth $100 million dollars. That is flat out absurd. Who exactly would they be bidding against?

I wouldn't get too worked up about this rumor; to me, it just sounds like a Cubs fan on meth.

Exactly. When I was reading that Article, I couldn't help but think "where's the fair and unbiased reporting?", "How is Soriano suddenly a good fielder like Rafael Furcal?", "How does this equate to even POSSIBLY being the "Greatest Infield of all time?"

talk about a Cubs fan getting entirely carried away. My favorite quotes from that article are as such: "Nothing has been Finalized".

That means it's a rumor, silly pants. How do the Cubs suddenly have that much money to give to Furcal, and then how would they afford Soriano for what they are giving to the Rangers? Nevermind the question of how they're going to pull even a few measley cents out of their now magical behinds after these two deals to pay for another outfielder or two (which are desperately needed).

Everything about this Article is just wrong. It sounds like it was written by a 16-year-old Cubs fan with a little too much time and drugs on his hands. This is without a doubt, the stupidest thing I've ever seen anyone get excited about.

        rant over.

How the hell are Soriano and Furcal the best MIF ever? Whoever says that is smoking crack. What about Sweet Lou and Alan Trammel? That was the best ever.

Ok that's so old school I can't even talk about it with much authority but they're said to be among the greatest, if not the greatest of all time.

Chicago would be stupid to give Furcal that much money, and that looked to be the most one-sided trade I've ever seen. Texas would be getting raped in that deal. This dude is pulling that info out of somewhere....

Olerud, Alfonzo, Ordonez and Ventura back in '99 was one of the best defensive infields ever.

Are people forgetting Soriano already played with Derek Jeter and Michael Young? I'd take those two over Furcal.

That would be a horrible trade for the Rangers.

That's the exact same thing I'm thinking. That wouldn't even be the greatest MIF that Soriano has been apart of, so it wouldn't even be close to the greatest MIF ever.

Yeah that trade does sound a little absurb but if it would for some strange reason go through Lee, Soriano, Furcal, and Ramirez would probably be the best infield anyone has seen in a long time.

Oh the cubs have money to pull it off the question is would the Tribune company sign off on it. The answer to that however is a bid NO.

Being a fan of both teams, I kinda like it....

                          - I like dumping Sori
                          - I like getting some pitching for the Rangers
                          - I don't like losing Mench but would handle it for pitching...Delucci could play everyday then
                          - I would like to get better pitching then Aardsma and Williams
                          - From the Cubs standpoint that's a great trade all-around

Trade has some potential with tweaking....I do really like Todd Walker...that would be a great infield if they added him...especially with the short porch in right.

I don't know, that infield the Cardinals had in '04 was pretty good - Rolen, Renteria, Womack, and Pujols; from both a defensive and offensive point of view. The Yankees will have a good one next year too, from an offensive position. Defensively, their right side will be fairly weak unless they find someone who can play first so Giambi can DH.

Keep in mind, for some reason, Hart has a huge man-crush on Todd Walker. The year the Cubs signed him, the Rangers actually offered him more money. The idea of Furcal getting all that money is highly incentive-based and has to do with winning the batting title, stolen bases title, etc. If the Cubs added these three guys and Pierre, which could happen, watch out.
