Couple of Orioles rumors for those of us in orange hell...

[Millennium]

-Made solid offers to Paul Byrd (2 years and an option, $10-$13 total contract) and Nomar Garciaparra (1 year with an option), expect them to sign at the winter meetings
-Shopping Erik Bedard/Jay Gibbons for Bobby Abreu or Adam Dunn (these talks really heated up this weekend, especially with Philly)
-Potential deals with Texas or Cincy Adrian Gonzalez & Wily Mo Pena being the centerpiece coming in, Rodrigo Lopez being the one going out
-Early talk for a trade with Houston involving Javy Lopez for Brad Lidge or Andy Pettite
-Ramon Hernandez is about a 50-50 shot to sign
-A.J. Burnett being heavily pursued, likely not going to happen. Considering Jeff Weaver as option.

This is all coming from some sources I and a few others have...take them for what they are.

You must be a member at Orioles Hangout too, I heard the same exact things. And Orange Hell is a PERFECT way to sum up the feeling of all O's fans. I doubt we can get Dunn for just Bedard and Gibbons, we'd probably have to add Adam Loewen or Hayden Penn to that deal, which I wouldn't do.

I'm not as down on the O's as many other people are.

Getting Leo will vastly help the pitching staff. Carbera has a lot of potential. I believe Chris Ray should be the closer next season.

They have 4 good bats in Miggy, Roberts, Lopez, and Mora.

Markakis is fine prospect and there's a slim chance you might see him in September. The same goes for Adam Loewen who had a great 2nd half and did well in the AFL against stiff competition.

Wow, Byrd [/sarcasm]. just what we need, another middle of the pack starter. as for nomar, he's been on the decline for 3 years now. if we can get him for cheap that'll be great... otherwise, it's stupid.

Don't like giving up on Bedard. I do like the idea of going after Abreu, but we might not have enough to give up for him.

Why do we keep trying to get rid of our pitchers? What we need is pitching!

if we can get either of those for Lopez, pull the trigger. But no way Houston is dumb enough to do that.

Don't know much about him.

I've always been a big Weaver fan. Just couldn't handle it in NY I guess. But an innings eater and will give you 6-7 innings every start. I like it.

as for Hernandez, i did read that if the mets sign Molina, then there's a good chance he goes to the O's..

I hate the anks so I hope the O's improve. However there is know way in hell
Houston is trading Pettite or Lidge for Lopez. Pettit can veto the trade and would and Lidge is to young with to much upside. Lopez isin the twilight of his playing days. Remember these are just rumors.

If we are unable to get a 1B, they'll play him at 1st. If they do, they will put Nomar at 3rd and move Mora back to LF.

Also, why would we trade Rodrigo for Adrian Gonzalez? Because R-Lo is an inconsistent, near 5.00 ERA pitcher that only performs good against the Red Sox.

Considering that he was damn near your team's most CONSISTENT STARTER last year...even moreso than Chen in alot of areas...I'd say 2 things:

1. You're being too tough on a guy that really turned it around last season

2. you're 100% completely insane...what's your plan to replace him? Another AA Pitcher who can't hack it?

Yes right, mmmhmmm. Early talk, eh? Oh man, some of these trade rumors are just knee-slapping hilarious.

Generally teams don't trade guys who throw 99 MPH for old catchers.

Considering that he was damn near your team's most CONSISTENT STARTER last year...even moreso than Chen in alot of areas...I'd say 2 things:

1. You're being too tough on a guy that really turned it around last season

2. you're 100% completely insane...what's your plan to replace him? Another AA Pitcher who can't hack it?

1. Actually, Chen was. Sub 4 ERA, didn't eat many innings but always pitched good. You must not have seen Rodrigo pitch, because if you did, you would have seen him throw his fastball WAY too much and get torched every time. Turned what around? No way can you say a guy with a 4.95 ERA turned around.

2. I'd take Paul Byrd over Rodrigo any day of the week. We're going to most likely get another pitcher anyway, whether it be Millwood/Burnett or someone via trade. So you can shut your mouth and stop displaying your ignorance now.
