Re: The Manny Thread
Latest Manny News:
One source involved in negotiations with the Red Sox confirmed that there is substance to the rumor that the Sox are working on a three-way deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in which the Sox would ship Ramírez to the Angels, the Angels would send prospects to the Diamondbacks, and the Sox would receive a package of players that includes power-hitting infielder Troy Glaus. -
Re: The Manny Thread
From the Providence Journal
"But in the last few weeks, Genske has, with the permission of the Red Sox, been calling teams to ascertain their interest in his client. One example: Genske contacted Toronto, a team no one could have forecast Ramirez would agree to play for, and said Ramirez would agree to a deal there."Comment

Re: The Manny Thread
Originally posted by camulosI would be pretty upset if the Red Sox traded Manny to Toronto. They'd probably finish ahead of us, especially now that it looks like they're going to lock up Burnett.
the Sox power for this year. They have Lastings for the future and Heilman for now. I think the problem is the Mets want to have the Sox kick in some money.
If I where the Sox I would try to keep him. If not this is a fair trade. I think you could get good production from Floyd. They would then either keep Lastings or move him for someone else. I am a baseball fan first and I think Manny should
stay a Sox. Troy Glauss is good, but I fell my package is beeter unless the D Backs include Steven Drew. Who knows?Comment

Re: The Manny Thread
I just can't see Manny becoming Met. I think he'll end up w. LAA.
Though he'd fit in well with the NY media, like Pedro did, I don't think the Sox will trade with the Mets. Though it's foolish to send him to a team in the AL who was already a threat to win the pennant without Manny."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: The Manny Thread
Gordon Edes on a Ramirez trade: "I caught Larry Lucchino as he was headed for an off campus appointment and he said that a trade for Manny “is such a big deal, it’s not likely to get done here.” That runs counter to the impression given by the Sox yesterday, but given the complexity of any Ramirez trade, it’s not really surprising."
This impression coming just after the rumors of a three way with Arizona and Anaheim that would land Glaus and others here in Boston. Personally, I feel like all the left-handed hitters available is complicating this whole thing, making it SO hard to keep the lineup balanced and fearsome without Manny. Hopefully this won't affect other trades, as we have a ton of options, including:
The Braves could be interested in Renteria, Loretta for Mirabelli (the latest a straight up deal), Nixon/Clement for Abreu (sounds too good to be true), and Wells could be headed to SF, LA, or Oakland. Wow, I'm dizzy!!Last edited by CWood2; 12-06-2005, 05:57 PM.Comment

Re: The Manny Thread
I don't think Glaus really replaces Manny. Pitchers aren't afraid to pitch to Glaus, well, the good ones anyways. He's liable to only hit .260 with 150 strikeouts and 35 homeruns. Glaus is one of my least favorite players in the game actually, but he is a better compliment to the lineup than Floyd. If the Sox could get Santana in that deal along with Glaus though, then they should definitly do it.
How about this bit of speculation on the parts of Eric Wilbur and Jay Mariottie:
Are the Cubs desperate enough for a splash that they would do a perennial Triple Crown possibility in Ramirez for a perennial Cy Young possibility in Zambrano (14-6, 3.26 ERA, 223 1/3 innings pitched in 2005)? Red Sox fans, even the ones in denial over at keepmanny.com, should hope that possibility exists. According to Phil Rogers of the Tribune, the Cubs may deal one of their aces only if they can land another starter like free agents Kevin Millwood or AJ Burnett. But Burnett is headed to Toronto for more Ricciardi dollars (five years, $55 million) and Millwood is rumored to be in hot negotiations with the Mariners. And the Cubs probably aren’t going to take Matt Clement, thank you very much.Comment

Re: The Manny Thread
If Texas is serious about aquiring Manny, the bidding starts with Teixeira. I wouldn't even mind the Sox eating up some salary, and throwing in one of our B prospects (Shoppach or Moss). I know I'm dreaming, but Teixeira would probably be the closest we could get to replacing Manny.Boston Red Sox l New England Patriots l Boston Celtics l Massachusetts Minutemen l Boston College EaglesComment

Today on WEEI, nearly every radio personality came to grips with the inevitable loss of Manny Ramirez. Yet it's not even Wednesday and sources from inside the Angels and Mets are saying that a deal for Manny just isn't going to happen. Interesting...Comment
