    Cubs to aquire Jaque Jones??

That's the word right now, they are negotiating as we speak. Not sure if I'd like this. He's a low average, high K guy....kinda like Corey Patterson.

    We'll see...

I think Jones is better, but I think the cubs gave up on Patterson to fast, that might come back and bite them in the @$$.

Patterson has been here for 4 years. With the exception of the first half of '03 he's been god awful. How can your plate discipline get progressively worse? His struggles at the plate have also contributed to some defensive lapses as well. To top it off his attitude just stinks! I'm not saying he can't rebound (he probably will knowing what happens to ex-Cubs) but he definitely could use the "change of scenery".

That 03 season he was on a tear, then he tore his ACL. Oh well...

Kind of...His average fell from .330 to .298 where it stood after his injury. He did play well though until the slide occured.

Jacques Jones could be a good fit, but I dont know if he gets on base enough.

How does his attitude stink? He gives 110% everytime he is on the field. Remember a couple years ago, Cubs down big and Corey was thowing body to the wind and diving out in the gap for a ball. I know I will always remember that. Mental lapses happen. Its baseball, 162 games and that will happen to all (including everyone's "savior" Derrek Lee). All the coaches have said that despite his struggles that effort and dedication was not his downfall. The only reason I can see anyone saying his attitude is bad is because he chose not to go to AFL like the Cubs hoped. Instead, he is working out with Michael Barrett and Richard Lewis everyday in the Atlanta area. Something Corey hasn't done in the past.

I like this move. It gives them more speed/defense and even if he doesnt start due to poor offense, he would be good for situational substitutions.

I agree I hope he does well with what other team he is with (as long as its with an AL team) I just think he and the cubs need to go their seperate ways. A change of scenery could be good both for him and the cubs. I think Jones would be alright in right obviously not cubs fans first choice but I think he would be an improvement over Burnitz.

As of yesterday the Cards had a 3 yr 20 million dollar offer on the table to Jones.....so the Cubs would have to exceed that. Also Hendry says they are considering Patterson to fill the void in RF.

                    *sigh*

Juan Pierre is horrible in CF compared to Patterson. Why not just put Murton (righty) in right, Pierre (lefty) in left, and Corey at his gold glove position in CF?

Horrible? The only thing Pierre doesnt have is a strong arm. He can track balls just as well as patterson and had 1 fewer error with more chances. In Wrigley it wont be magnified. In opposing larger parks it might. Patterson has a decent arm but he has terrable accuracy. Bottom line is that Corey Patterson sucks. He wont develop until he grows up which might never happen considering he has made lots of money in his time with the Cubs, over 10 mil. He is set, and so is his career as another overhyped Cub that ended up a loser. 97 years of losing and as fans we are suppost to settle for trash like this. NFW.

I do agree with some of your points. I think that if we are to start Patterson, it's idiocy to play him in right field. I wish we could still trade Patterson and Angel Guzman for something decent, but oh well.

It's down to basically the Cubs, Cardinals and Royals for Jones and the Cardinals will most likely land him. The Cubs are not willing to go to 3 years and the Royals can't match the $20.million offer by the Cards.

If the Cubs fail to sign Jones then expect them to look at guy's like Dustin Mohr, Richard Hidalgo and Juan Encarnacion, who are all relatively inexpensive and can be productive. If not, get used to seeing Corey Patterson in RF.

As of right now what other options does he have. He's not going to say John Mabry is his staring right fielder.

Hendry could not of dream of having this bad of an offseason.
