Jays and Phils rumours again.

First of all, is it spelled, 'rumor' or 'rumour'? I've always been confused with the two...

Anyway...





Expect the Phillies - conservative and patient with their money and trade bait thus far - to wait out a market that they consider to be bloated. They might be curious about a rumble yesterday that had the Blue Jays interested in leftfielder Pat Burrell, though no contact has been made between the clubs. Burrell has a full no-trade clause in his contract.
The Jays had shown interest in Bobby Abreu earlier in the offseason, but his asking price was too high. During that same time frame, the Phillies indicated their interest in Jays veteran righthander Miguel Batista.

I've heard the Phils like Chacin. I'd love to do a Chacin, Rios and Hillenbrand deal for Abreu and Floyd. This was a deal that was suggested by a Jays fan, and I think it's quite fair.

That trade above...maybe, but Chacin is a very good young pitcher, Hillenbrand is the guy I'd want to keep the most on the COF, and you all know what I think of Rios. Now, obviously, at the moment, Abreu would be a gigantic help for this team. But in the long run, and even in the short run, I don't know how good that trade would be.

Floyd was not impressive at all, while Chacin had 13 wins. IMO, that's not the best the Jays can get for Chacin, Rios and Hillenbrand.

Chacin was an abberration in my opinion. Hillenbrand is expendable and Rios, well, you know how most of us Jays fans on here fell about Rios.

I wouldn't trade Chacin. I like what i've seen from him and he has the tools to be a front end starter.

As for the rumoured trade i'd do it in a heartbeat. I'd even throw in some extra peices.

It's going to be hard to find a match in terms of salaries. The Jays are already near their 75 mil budget.

Burrell has 3 years left on his contract at: 9.5, 13, 14
Abreu has 2 years left on his contract at: 13, 15 (2008 is an option year at 16 mil with a 2 mil buyout)

Gillick already offered Abreu for Wells and JP turned that down.

The Phillies are looking for a SP and they need a lefty. Chacin would fit the profile. They also need help at 3B and Hillenbrand could help them there.

But Chacin and Hillenbrand combine to make less than 7 million. I don't see a deal happening between these teams unless the Phillies also agree to take Batista.
