Jeff Reardon charged with armed robbery

According to a news release from the Palm Beach Gardens Police Department, the 50-year-old former All Star entered a Hamilton Jewelers store in shopping mall and handed a clerk a note demanding money. The clerk, believing Reardon had a gun, filled a bag with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Reardon fled the store with the cash and was followed by the store manager. Police arrived and arrested Reardon without incident outside a P.F. Chang's restaurant. The money was recovered at the same time.

Reardon, who has lived in Florida since the 1980's, earned over $11 million in his baseball career. He played for the Montreal Expos, the Minnesota Twins (and was instrumental in the team's 1987 World Series win), the Boston Red Sox, the Cincinnati Reds and the New York Yankees. He was dubbed "The Terminator" and remains one of the most effective pitchers in baseball history.

He is charged with armed robbery, but the police statement does not provide any details on weapons recovered at the time of the arrest.

sucks for him, must have thrown all his money down the drain in the 80's and 90's.

granted it was the 80's, but he made chump change in contrast to what he could have earned these days.

Wow that's pretty sad. My biggest Jeff Reardon memory is him coughing up the lead against the Blue Jays in the '92 World Series. He allowed a HR against a young Ed Sprague.

I wonder why the article didn't mention his stint in Atlanta?

Anywho let's hope things aren't THAT bad for him as he was one of the best closers of the 80s and early 90s.

That was one of a few errors in the article, I edited a couple others in my post.

And that Sprague HR is my biggest memory of him, too. Ugh.

              He was a good reliever.

Sad to see his life go down the drain.

It's sad, and stupid, that someone who earns over $11 million dollars has toi resort to robbing jewellery stores later in life.

Hopefully he doesn't receive a lighter sentence due to him being an ex-ballplayer.

Wow, first Steve Bedrosian knocks off a 711... and now this.

Better keep Bruce Sutter and Lee Smith under observation.

He is saying that he is bi-polar and that he forgot to take his medicine. He is also saying he is not broke and in fact still has millions in the bank.

Bipolarity has replaced A.D.D. and "my dog ate my homework."

                        Yeah, OK.

Reardon found not guilty by reason of insanity
