    Weaver rumors?

anyone heard about where he might end up? did LA offer him arbitration? he was probably my favorite tiger till they traded him for (all-star in 06) Bonderman. Wouldn't mind him coming back here but I think he burned bridges when he left if I remember correctly, but I don't think there's a spot in the rotation for him.

The only rumor i have heard so far is the Cincinnati Reds being interested in signing both Weaver and Kevin Brown.

And thus securing another fourth or fifth place finish in the Central.

True, but consider the fact that Aaron Harang was their best starter last season-something has to be done. Paul Wilson is a question mark, Brandon Claussen looked awful at times last year and the Reds could save them selves around $6,million if they just replace Eric Milton with a tee (the results would be about the same). The Reds are likely going to finish in last place, the Brewers and Pirates have better pitching staff's than the Reds, and even the Cardinals signing of Sidney Ponson is better than anything the Reds have done so far.

I could see them finishing as high as third if they were to sign both Weaver and Brown and both of them had somewhat productive seasons. I mean the Reds have what it takes in terms of hitting. It's just there pitching that is suspect at this point.

But, honestly, do you think Weaver can actually be productive in Cincy and Brownie can stay healthy long enough to have any type of influence?

            Right, I didn't think so.

I believe any good pitcher can be productive in Cincy. The Reds score a ton of runs and I do believe pitchers like run support!

There's a huge difference in being productive and being bailed out by your offense.

Weaver was already second in the league last year in homers allowed pitching in a pitcher-friendly ballpark in LA, if I were a Reds fan, I would be absolutely frightened by the possibility of him signing with Cincy.

Weaver is pretty questionable. I'd take him for an end of the rotation guy because its possible he could end up being your number 3 guy.

I agree, I know he's not the pitcher we saw in New York and he was fairly sucessful in LA, but going to Cincy is like career suicide for a pitcher. Weaver would be much better suited staying in a big ball park even if it is for less money.

I can't believe that Kevin Brown would not retire. This guy has had so many back surgeries and still continues to have more and more back problems. Not to mention even when he is healthy he is not that great. This guy already made his big money, won a ring, and won over 200 wins, there is no reason for him to come back.

The Reds have 1 good starting pitcher (Harang) Weaver is an upgrade.

re: Brown retiring, I would hate to be an athlete and realizing that my time is just about up. All your life you've been the very best at every level, and all of a sudden you can't do it anymore. Scary thought!

You are right; Harang was actually really good last year.

His record won't show it, at 11-13, but he was very solid the whole year through. He finished with a 3.83 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and had over a 3:1 K/BB ratio.

Yep but some teams have a #4 starter with similar stats. One good pitcher won't get you very far. Not too mention thier bullpen is pretty bad.

Not very many teams #4 starter has an ERA under 4!
