A smorgasboard of baseball books to get

In the next 4 months, there's 6 baseball books I'm interested in.

There's the obvious annuals from BP, BA, and John Sickels.

There's also a book about Bill James

BP has a book coming out called Baseball Between The Numbers: Why Everything You Know About The Game Is Wrong
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/046...books&v=glance

But the book on the top of my purchase list is John Schuerholz's "autobiography"

I'm hoping the book is candid as Moneyball.

Thanks for the heads up, those all look really good. The middle one from Prospectus looks like it'll be very thought provoking. I have to finally finish Scout's Honor and read Mind Games before I buy another book, but those may motivate me!

Anyone read this: Pitching Around Fidel : A Journey into the Heart of Cuban Sports. It looks pretty interesting. Add it to my growing list of baseball books.

Did you end up reading Mind Games Cwood? I'm reading it now.

I found the chapter on bullpen usage very interesting. They basically concluded that the "closer by committee" theory would work if they had the right personnel and a manager committed to using it. The stats they included showed the situations where your best reliever would make the biggest impact, some of which was surprising. They basically said that a guy like Mariano Rivera would be more useful in a tie game in the 7th inning, rather than pitching the 9th inning with a 2-3 run lead, which is a typical save situation. The thinking is that even bad relievers can save a game with a 2-3 run lead, so why waste your best reliever in that situation.

My next chapter is about Ortiz, titled "So you want me to hit like a little bitch?" Good stuff. I highly recommend it for Red Sox fans or fans of baseball in general.
