No joke...He could have gone anywhere else, but no, he had to go to the Mets. Shows you there is little to no loyalty today. It's all about the allmighty dollar. The Braves had gone up to a three year deal also, but the Mets must have offered more.

Here's to hoping that they light him up bad when they face him next year.

Good riddance... time to turn that cash we had offered to him into a deal for a good first baseman.

I'm guessing that Glavine chose the team that he is least likely to go to the playoffs with... he doesn't want a repeat of last post season's embarassment. He can pitch away the final 3 years of his baseball career with the knowledge that he'll never be counted on in the clutch again and given the opportunity to let a team and all of its fans down.

He did a good job for Atlanta over the span of his career, but I don't think he'll be missed much.

hopefully the phillies sign moyer, and Gillick pushes to get maddux in a seattle uniform. I would give maddux a 45-55 -4 year deal.

Hehehe, I love Mets haters. I still don't think Glavine solves nearly half our problems. We need to sign Alfonso back and then pray that last year was a "fluke" year of everyone sucking.

I for one will miss him. I'm not sure why he decided to go with the Mets. Although money does seem to be a big issue, pride could have also played into it. Glavine may have felt unappreciated for all those years he put in. I'll never forget game 6 of the WS where he pitched a gem. (Classic Glavine) I hope the NY media and fans don't get to him. Here's wishing him good luck until the Braves play him.

I went from hating the guy to almost liking him (if he would have become a Phil) to hating him again. Supposedly he said he felt more comfortable with the guys in the Mets clubhouse because they are more his age. Supposedly he said something like, "I didn't want to be in that 'bar scene' with the young Phillies." Super reason to sign with a team I'd much rather pitch to Piazza (worst catcher in NL) than Lieberthal or Lopez Maybe social security payments will take some of the load off the Mets payroll - sorry couldn't resist. The Mets now are back in the NLEast race - seriously.

Re: Glavine appears to be a Met now

From things I've been reading, it looks like Glavine's last offer from the Braves was for 3 years at $30 million. So, for 5 million he is doing this? Sounds like there's a little spite involved. Also, according to some stories out of Atlanta, Glavine called the Braves to apologize for his comments after he said they didn't call him back on his counteroffer. It appears that they had left messages with his agent, and the messages weren't returned.

Stupid comment. Mike Piazza may not be awful at throwing out runners, but he's a good defensive catcher and he calls a good game. Pitchers such as Al Leiter, Pedro Astacio and Armando Benitez have had great success with him. Lopez is considered a horrible catcher, but he obviously has had good success, and Lieberthal is considered a decent one.

Schurholtz was just on tv. He said they offered Glavine a 3 year $30 million deal with an option of a 4th year. But there were some contingencies with the 4th year and Glavine did not like that. He (Schurholtz) also mentioned that when Glavines career as a player was over, he would get a job in the organization for ever ! Seems like there are some ego issues with Glavine and not resigning.

Re: Glavine appears to be a Met now

Yup... from what I read on AJC, all the BS about the Braves not responding to this counter-proposal or that one is a lie. Glavine's top-flight agent didn't check his messages.

Screw 'em both... the Braves have great pitching in the minors, and not a bad staff on the mound next season. They may not win their 12th in a row, but they will be respectable while they wait for the young talent to develop. Word is that there is a guy named Pratt who is burning up the winter leagues... Pratt, Hodges, Jung Bong.... the Glavineless future is looking bright.

Also, figure that John S. has something up his sleeve, either for another pitcher or for a bat. He is far, far from done this winter. Tomko for Giles perhaps.... or possibly something bigger. Exciting times.

The Braves need to start making a change... the business as usual attitude that Glavine and some of the other complacent veterans bring to the ballpark just doesn't win championships. It would be nice to have a team that played with a little fire.... Braves fans need only look at the Falcons this season to remember what it feels like to have a team worth getting excited about. Put that on the diamond and I'll be a happy guy. I wonder if Vick plays baseball too?
