Re: Epstein back with Red Sox
Yeah, now that the season has been torpedoed, in part by his departure, its nice of him to reconsider. Dont get me wrong, the Red Sox are one of my favorite teams but I dont have a good feeling about the upcoming season...and Im not sure Theo can save them at this point.Comment

Ok..so not only does Manny not know what he wants and now Epstein doesn't know if he wants to stay away from the game or not.The DuCross Brothers: Sports Internet Talk Show

Re: Epstein back with Red Sox
Theo wouldn't have re-signed Damon. Just like to say that right off the bat. Damon wanted too much money for the Red Sox liking, plain and simple.
I'm actually really excited for the season. For now Manny and Ortiz are still here and that gives us a good future. Our pitching staff is better than last year, and if Schilling can return to his usual self than it'll be that much better.Comment

Re: Epstein back with Red Sox
Plus, Gammo says he's been in the picture the whole time, so I doubt very much that we'd see a stark difference. In fact, our reluctance to trade key prospects in our search for a centerfielder and potentially a shortstop has all the signs of Theo's influence all along. We've acquired Beckett, we got rid of Rente-wreck and replaced our top prospect, we've added 3 power arms to the pen, and soon we'll have a CF at the right price. The front office saga has made for a good joke around the league, but I don't see how the team is worse for wear.Comment

Re: Epstein back with Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox today announced that Theo Epstein has returned to the club with the title and responsibilities of Executive Vice President/General Manager. President/CEO Larry Lucchino made the announcement. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.Comment

Re: Epstein back with Red Sox
Glad to hear this news. I think this is what all Red Sox fans hoped to hear merely two months ago. Most interesting part, in my opinion, is from Larry Lucchino:
We have implemented new mechanisms which enhance internal communication and which streamline external communication. Over this period, walls have crumbled, perceptions of one another have changed, and appreciation of one another has grown. As an enhanced sense of “team” has emerged, we have rediscovered that, whatever our differences may have been, baseball is at the center of our operations and our lives, and working towards the success of the Red Sox is a commitment which all of us share.
It is my hope that these enhanced internal "mechanisms" result in a cohesive unit that speaks with one clear voice. It is also my hope that the front office discontinues its old habit of leaking nasty rumors about players following their exit from the team. I hope to notice a change in this behavior soon. I am optimistic that it will, and I have a feeling this was one of a multitude of issues hammered out by Epstein, Lucchino, Henry, and others. It was refreshing to read this type of candor from the men responsible for the direction of the Red Sox.
Not that I will pay attention, but it should be interesting to see how the mutants in the press pick these statements apart to fit their current agenda to sell newspapers. I highly reccommend that all Red Sox fans disregard local news sources...it's just an odious adventure altogether.Last edited by GBrushTWood; 01-24-2006, 06:23 PM.Comment

Re: Epstein back with Red Sox
I echo that reccommendation about ignoring the media for a bit. Right now they're all ticked off that they didn't get their precious press conference and feel snubbed so they're dragging everyone through the mud. The media in Boston can be so sickeningly self-serving it drives me crazy. You just have to step back and sometimes and not buy into every opinion utterred by some talking head on WEEI.Comment

Re: Epstein back with Red Sox
Ha, Manny threatens to pull outta ST despite making 20-something million and the press are self-serving for wanting to sell their paper to put food on the table? Hey, I've lived here all my life, the press can be sickening, I plan to be part of them some day, but still, their job is their job, and if people buy the juicy stuff then keep pushin it.
