Bold prediction... Florida Marlins will make the playoffs this year...

Yep, I'm calling it. After looking over their minor league roster, er I mean major league roster I've determined that with so many prospects dotting the starting lineup they will catch fire and make the playoffs. I wish I had MLB online because I want to watch this team play. They've got so many young guys and with Girardi coaching they will be fun to watch one way or another. Call me crazy but I think this team is gonna be the surprise of the year in MLB. Thoughts? Comments?... and yes I am in a perfect frame of mind, I'm just struck by the awesomeness this lineup potentially posses.

Teams with all question marks, which prospects are, usually don't fair too well. I'm going to go out on a limb and say they won't make the playoffs.

Put money on it and I'll call you bold, otherwise it doesn't mean much. I'd say the likelihood of Florida making the playoffs is about as likely as Tampa winning the East.

Man, first they start using that stuff at Tech and UVA and now they are selling it at the small colleges like Lynchburg College. What next.......Jerry Falwell smoking the weed? Somebody get me out of this state before it is overrun with looney tunes and starts looking like a Cheech & Chong movie!!!

Just funning with ya......Marlins = No chance with that roster against the Braves, Mets, Phillies, and maybe even the Nats........if I was Dontrelle or Miguel I would be begging them to trade me next!!!

I agree. Once you got money on it then it's a bold predicition. Otherwise, I might as well make one myself:

Can't afford to pay for that bold prediction.

It took the Marlins 6 years to make it back to the playoffs after the last fire sale, so it may be awhile.

If you are trying to go with a long shot take the Pittsburgh Pirates (a good mix of veterans and young players, no more Lloyd) they at least have an outside chance at competing for the wild card.

Er, teams with a lot of prospects on their roster don't make the playoffs like that. The Blue Jays had lots of prospects in the early 80s but it took them 3 or so years to make the playoffs. (tho they might've made it in '84 if it wasn't for the Tigers hot start)

I predict that the Marlins will have a really bad season but there'll be some positives to it. They'll be contenders for the playoffs in 3 years time.

I'm telling yall I just have a good feeling about this team. Doubt anything crazy happens with them like making the playoffs but I'll still stick to the claim that they will be fun to watch.

I give you credit if you're willing to stick by them, especially since they have very little that resembles a Major League lineup and less that resembles a Major League pitching staff.

With the roster the Marlins currently have I would be suprised if they could make the playoffs in College baseball. LOL

Are you kidding? They were stacked last year and didnt do anything, now they have no players and no chance. Unless Willis finds a way to pitch daily and Cabrera has the ability to play 5 positions at once, they will have at least 100 losses.

I definitely agree with you that they might be a surprise in 2006. Not sure if they can top the Braves & greatly improved Mets, but who knows?
The offense has got to be an improvement over last year, even with Delgado gone. I watched like 100 games last year & they just struggeled to score all the time. With a lineup of Cabrera, Jacobs, Hermedia & Willingham, its got the potential to be explosive. The only thing I'm worried about is the pitching rotation now that Beckett's gone, but he was injured half the time anyways.

Speaking of injuries, are the Indians going to be keeping Juan Gonzalez or is he available to sit on the Marlins bench? He's always been one of my favorite players, but the amount of injuries that guy sustains is ridiculous. This Marlin team could really use at least one veteran, so maybe Gonzalez is worth the risk.

The problem for the Marlins to sign Juan Gonzalez is that he won't sign with a National League team to come off the bench. There is still a chance he could be invited back to training camp with the Indians, also the Yankees and Orioles have been said to have minor interest (the Yankees to replace Ruben Sierra and the Orioles as just an invite).
