    MLB's Scheduling Method

    Hey all,

I'm a big fan of baseball, but I've never understood how the scheduling works in MLB. How many times does a team play another team within its division? How many times does a team play other teams in its league? How does interleague scheduling work?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Re: MLB's Scheduling Method

Before this season, I believe this was the basic formula for scheduling:

Of course the NL Central and AL West have a different formula
19 games against each division opponent
6 games against every other team in the respective league
6 games against a teams natural interleague rival
3 games against 4 teams in a division in interleague (total of 18 interleague games, 12 for the NL Central)

that's all I know, but I believe they switched it since last year. THe Padres faced the Dodgers 18 times, but the Rockies 20 times.

Hmm, interesting. The Royals played the St. Louis Cardinals (our natural interleague rival) just three times last year. But every year before that we had a home and away series with them. Weird.

      Anyway, thanks for the info.
