Braves pitching staff about to take another hit.

It appears that the Braves are about to lose Chris Hammond. He's ready to sign a three year deal with the Yankees for about $5 million. He'll be 37 next year and the Braves don't want to give him a three year deal. They did offer arbitration to Maddux, so there's hope there, if for nothing more than a one year deal.

I'm guessing that Maddux will stay a Brave, at least for 1 more year. Hammond leaving, though.... that's tough to replace. First Remlinger, then Hammond.... things are not looking good at the moment.

Guys I've been a Braves fan since the late 70's and I can tell you this, the management for the braves are very good. The Braves farm system is packed with talent. there will be pitchers coming up you never heard of. One thing I like is the Braves resigned the pitching coach (Leo). Thats the same guy that developed Glavin and the rest of that great pitching staff.

call me crazy, but I feel Hammond and Remlinger had once in a life time years last year. I can see them sucking from now on. Maddux is the key, we need to sign him.

I still think the Braves will win the division next year. Yeah Glavine, Remlinger, and Hammond left but they also have a lot of up and coming prospects. Jason Marquis is going to be a stud and they just traded for Mike Hampton who i think will have an amazing year. The Braves finally are starting to get younger after years of just reloading instead of rebuilding. Unless the Phillies are able to sign more guys (especially for the bullpen) then the Braves should easily win the East next year.

I agree with you... they have one of the most stacked minor leagues in baseball. Marquis is ready to finally step up and make an impact... he just needs the confidence. Moss is a Glavine clone, only much younger... he should do great things. Millwood is back to form and has a pitching style similar to Smoltz and Schilling... I like that. If they get Maddux back, with the addition of Hampton, they are still looking very good.

The infield worries me alot more than the pitching right now. No 1st baseman, no real 3rd baseman, and no decision on 2nd base. They have to find a place to put Derosa, because he's proven that with playing time he'll hit over .320. Giles has power and shined in the few games he played at 3rd... but I don't think he's reliable yet. Helms... well, the organization has to make a decision and either say he's their man or trade him. He lacks confidence because they never play him. McGriff is not the answer at 1st, that much I do know.

please braves dont take all the pitchers!! us cardinal fans need something!!!

as much as i dont really think maddux will help because he doesnt eat very many innings i hope the cards make a reasonable push.. not one where they spend alot of money.. but if its reasonable..

FYI the braves did not develop maddux!! i keep hearing from some braves fans online about how the braves developed glavine, smoltz and maddux. maddux was a stud cub FA they got.. now.. i really like maddux because my grandfather(cubs fan) and i used to watch him when he was a cub.. and it brings back great memories of summer afternoons with my very cool grandfather. i miss those days.
