Re: explanation of hold stats
A relief pitcher is credited with a hold any time he enters a game in a save situation, records at least one out and leaves the game never having relinquished the lead. A pitcher cannot finish the game and receive credit for a hold, nor can he earn a hold and a save in the same game.
The hold addresses the "finish game" issue, though it still treats a three-run lead the same as a one-run lead.Enjoy football? Enjoy Goal Line Blitz! -
Re: explanation of hold stats
thanks a lot for the reply... What about if a rp enters the game in a hold situation and he doesn't give a run be is team scores a bunch right after ? also if a starter last for 5 innings and 3 relievers pitches without surrending a run, will they be credited with a hold ?Comment

If a RP enters, holds the lead, and then another pitcher comes in and lets in 3 runs, but still wins the game, the first RP should still get a hold.
However, if those 3 runs let in close the gap, the 2nd RP could get a save I suppose. Otherwise, he would get nothing.
