Re: The Oklahoma Marlins?
Miami to Oklahoma? I'm not exactly sure if it would create a stir from a public-relations stand point.
Of course, the Hornets are bringing great crowds, and I'm not going to pretend I know about Oklahoma City.Last edited by Chip Douglass; 02-17-2006, 12:26 AM.I write things on the Internet.

The NBA is a different story. OKC already has the Ford Center which is NBA ready. Not to mention that the Hornets were 6th in the league in attendance last time I checked. I think a NBA franchise would work.***My Teams***

MLB - St. Louis Cardinals

Re: The Oklahoma Marlins?
Why the hell can't Portland get a team? Especially at a time when it's almost like 3 or 4 of them are up for grabs (not literally speaking, but it seems like some of them are literally just a few steps from needing a move). I mean come on! within the next decade this city is going to grow from the current half million citizens to over a million, and you can see big business already starting to build homes and businesses ALL OVER THE PLACE just for them. Property values are rising astronomically, and homes that right now cost $200k will be worth 350-400k in under a decade. Now would be the perfect time to start building while the property value is relatively cheap, especially when all numbers indicate that no matter what the attendance numbers will grow year by year by year just by putting the team here because of the quick growing economy.
We've got Intel
We've got Nike
You can't tell me you can't see the dollar signs.
Portland is a unique city that attracts interesting people, but most importantly (and most frequently now, I might add) Californians who moved because property was too expensive and Portland has their jobs (Intel, Nike, ect). These same Californians are most frequently the ones wearing Baseball caps that sport their favorite cali-teams logos. Not to mention you've got a lot of Mariners fans (like myself) who can't afford to live in Seattle and live here, trekking up a few times each summer to see their team play.
People will come to the games if you put a team here in Portland. If you ask me, it's more of a sure thing than any of the stupid ideas they've come up with yet, and with all the other boosted advantages (easily sell season tickets to the large popular corporations around here, get possible advertising from Nike, amazingly low prices for land to build your stadium on considering where we are and who we attract) it seems like the best and most advantageous decision for a potential team to move here....
SO WHY DON'T THEY EVER EVEN CONSIDER US?! AAAAAAAAH!!!
I'm getting really tired of not having a team that doesn't take a 6 hour drive to go see a game of. I wish these guys would just do the SMART THING and SEND A TEAM HERE! WE NEED IT!!Comment

Re: The Oklahoma Marlins?
OKC will be a very good market.....for the NBA or NHL.
I can't see MLB working out in OKC, not because people won't come but because the market is too small to have any real impact. It'd be like going from one problem area to another.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: The Oklahoma Marlins?
I doubt this. I really don't think they would name a team based out of Oklahoma City the Marlins.Comment

Re: The Oklahoma Marlins?
Oklahoma City is just one of many cities you can expect to see linked with the Marlins. Las Vegas, Portland, San Antonio and Norfolk have already been mentioned and we could see a few other cities get in the mix (Charlotte, Nashville, Mexico City). The tax payers could ultimately decide the fate of the Marlins in south Florida in september, county commissioners are discussing a referendum which would allow county voters to decide if they would be willing to pay a half-cent sales tax increase for 1 year to put towards a new stadium. If not, than after the 2007 season the Marlins will have to find a new home although there have been rumors about contraction...again.Comment
