Could Ken Griffey Jr. Break the Home Run Record?

With Barry Bonds basically calling it quits after this season there is a very good chance that he does not get to Hank Aaron's Home Run record. If the record stays at 755 does anyone think that Ken Griffey Jr. has any real chance of breaking the record?.

Griffey at 36 years of age, has 536 HR's, 219 shy of Aaron. If Griffey is over the injuries that have plagued him the past 4 seasons and can stay healthy he would have to average at least 32 HR's for the next 7 seasons to catch and break the record.

I think it's a long shot to say the least, but i don't think it is out of the realm of possibility.

Once upon a time, this was a great question. But now, the only things Griffey's breaking are more bones.

rsox i'm disappointed in you man! It's 755

Looking at it optimistically I think Griffey will end his career in the high 600s, with 700 HRs being the most I can see him ending his career with.

The next man to even come close to challenging Aaron will be Alex Rodriguez.

Theres an outside chance but not likely. There would be no better guy though to break the record, Griffey is a class act. Before all these injuries, he would have FOR SURE beaten it, it's a shame what's happened to them.

But if he stays healthy, he can hit 30 HR's a year, but no idea how long the guy can play. Sooner or later, he's going to have to go to the AL and DH just to help prolong his career. Those years in the Kingdome playing on the Astroturf just caught up to him, it's really too bad cause he probably would have went down as the greatest ever.

I hope not, A-Rod is the symbol of what's wrong in pro sports. The man is way too spoiled, uptight, and wishy washy. He has jelly legs in terms of conviction.

Spoiled, yes. I'm having a problem getting your logic with the last two accusations, though. Usually, when someone is 'uptight', they're specific and to the point, to the point of being annoying with the compulsiveness for exactness. Wishy washy folks usually sit on the fence with their opinions, don't seem to care one way or another about anything. I find that perhaps more annoying. A-Rod is a cheater, too.

No way Junior does it. He'd had to average a little over 40 HR's in each of the next 5 years. By that time he'll be 41. Like Skerik said, once upon a time he had a shot. I think he can top 600 though. I think that's a more realistic goal and will help him finish his career in a great way reminding people how great he was in the 90's.

                  Wrong in sports?

I'm just not going to say anything since I have absolutely nothing nice to say at all.

no. I think Arod will break it, than Pujols will break it again.

He's pretty uptight when it comes to media relations. He takes himself WAAAAY too seriously. the wishy washiness comes from his WBC saga.

Let's see, we have Terrell Owens destroying franchises, Ron Artest attacking fans, guys like Bonds, Giambi, Palmerio cheating with steroids, and tons of other players who either cause huge problems with their teams, or can't stay out of court, yet A-Rod is the symbol of what's wrong in sports????

                            Not at all.

A-Rod is a great player, and he seems like a good citizen.

He might worry about his image a little too much, but that hardly makes him the symbol of what's wrong in baseball.
