I hope they keep him and force him to play the field. No one should outright demand things like that.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Soriano: Nats have 3 weeks to "fix it"
With Jose Guillen out for at least 3 months the Nationals are going to have to butter Soriano up to playing the Outfield somehow. Jim Bowden has said the Nats have "no interest" in pursuing Sammy Sosa again which leaves only in-house options like Michael Tucker to replace Guillen. Soriano's bat is going to be needed in the Nationals lineup if this team is going to have any kind of offense.Comment

Re: Soriano: Nats have 3 weeks to "fix it"
I just don't know how a guy with such faults and pitiful performances at a certain position thinks he is priviliged with the right to choose where he wants to play.
I think after 51 errors over 2 seasons, anyone would just shutup about wanting to keep playing 2nd base. If anything... he should move to Outfield and raise his stock.
I think how he sees it, not many second baseman can hit for power, so him being the only 2B capable, he can make big contracts from teams who need a strong infield.
I think he should move to outfield, because his defensive stock playing outfield will out-value him over being a higher stock-offensive player among a paltry league of second basemen.SAN ANTONIO SPURSComment

Originally posted by dieselboyIf he wouldn't play the OF for the Yanks or the Rangers, why would he for the Nats? He didn't want to play for them, so why now?
I'm not justifying it at all, I'm just saying he won't do it.
Yup. The Nats are at fault for not doing due diligence and knowing that Sori doesn't want any part of playing the outfield.Comment

Maybe I've been playing too much FNR3, but I wish F-Rob would pin Soriano up against a locker and just beat him without mercy until he agreed to play the OF.Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.

Re: Soriano: Nats have 3 weeks to "fix it"
Soriano's a douche for not doing what he is being asked to by his employers, but Jim Bowden is even more of a dope for acquiring him. Did Texas rape this fool over a barrel or what?
So, you're about to acquire a guy who's arb eligible, is set to make approximately $10M, and you want him to switch positions? And you don't even confirm that he's willing to switch positions?
What a dink. Now look at the situation Bowden is in. He's going to either a) get raped in a trade by probably being forced to pay about half of Soriano's salary, b) engage in a stalemate with Soriano over moving him, or c) be forced to move Vidro or somebody else. Just horrific baseball operations management here. And he's hurting Graffanino's market to boot...Comment

Re: Soriano: Nats have 3 weeks to "fix it"
In this scenario I have no pity for the Nationals.
Every one in baseball has known that Soriano has never wanted to move from 2B. The Nationals set themselves up for disaster.
I hate it when players demand things or don't play hard, but Soriano is right in this situation. 2B is his position. Why should he move because someone wants him to?"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Soriano: Nats have 3 weeks to "fix it"
After watching him the last few years in Texas I think he's the sorriest, laziest player in the game...yes, even more than Manny. He hits some homers but I was glad to see him get traded. I'm not a big Wilkerson fan but anything is better than Soriano.Comment

Re: Soriano: Nats have 3 weeks to "fix it"
I could definetly see Sori going to the Mets where he could play 2b. I just don't know if the Nats would trade within the division to the Mets, they might have too. Sori has always said how much he loves New York, even hinted at times he would move to the outfield for the Yanks, i'm not sure how he feels about the "other" New York team though.Yankees

Re: Soriano: Nats have 3 weeks to "fix it"
If ARod can move from short to third to accomodate a team that already had an all-star at his position, then Soriano (a lesser player) can and should do it. No excuses. He's a bum and not a team player for putting up this much of a fight.Comment
