Re: Who will win the NL east?
The Braves winning the division again is as sure as life, death, and taxes. No reason not to pick them. They lose star players year after year and still gets it done with their youth movement. Losing Furcal and Farnsworth shouldn't hurt them much.Comment

Blah, you guys are supposed to be saying the Mets and the Phillies and stuff!
Atlanta thrives on being the "underdog" year after year.Comment

I love the spring. Every off-season, the Mets sign a bunch of free agents, we all hear how they are going to win their division, and then they proceed to crap the bed. You can set your clock to it almost.Comment

Originally posted by marinersfan09I don't know how you guys can pick the Mets over the Braves. The Mets have never beaten out the Braves for more years than I can count. Bobby Cox is an amazing manager who knows how to get the best out of his players, all New York has is a bunch of superstars who only think of themselves (with the exception of Wright and Reyes). Braves win the NL East again this year.
Pedro...definitely..Delgado...uhh...Beltran....Wag ner....that's about all I can think of...
..unless you consider Floyd and Lo Duca "superstars"....
so they have 4...on a team of 25 players...that could possibly be considered superstars...and that makes them a team with a "bunch" of superstars? I mean....not to nitpick, but if that's what you base your ideal of the Mets on, you're severely misunderstanding the situation.

The difference this time around, of course, would be that they didn't "sign" anybody. They traded with Florida because Florida was willing to trade overwhelming older talent for talented youth. As usual, they decided to rely on veterans rather than wait for their youth to come around. I'm suprised they've kept Wright and Reyes as long as they have.
However, I wuld also suggest that years past have been much different. Beltran moved from the Royals, an AL team, to the NL -- and people expected him to perform better. Why? I couldn't tell you. Matsui came from halfway across the world, which is always a gamble. Delgado and Lo Duca both came from the Marlins...a team in the same division and the same league. Is it really that likely that a move that infintesimal could possibly affect their abilities to play as much as past signings/tradings by the Mets have done? Come on, now.
I'm not saying it's not likely. God knows the Mets seem to have the propensity to have history repeat itself more often than it humanly should. However, I don't think that will be the case this time. The differences between now and then are far and away much different than you're giving them credit for. You're looking for things to fall apart because they normally do. I'm looking at things the way I look at in every MLB team, having made observations about the way movement within the MLB affects players and their ability to play.
I think the Mets have a pretty good chance at challenging the Braves. I'm not sure that they can overtake the braves with only 4 established starters (getting rid of Seo was the biggest mistake they've made in quite a while, why didn't they ever even give him a chance to play? why after performing the way he did, why did they trade him? Especially when he was more established as a starter than anyone else that could possibly be a #5 starter...rant over)...but they will definitely challenge them.Comment

I hope the Mets, but I won't believe it until I see it. The Braves will probably win it again."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: Who will win the NL east?
Rockin Leo Mazzone is gone people... if that doesn't spell DEMISE for the Braves... jk jk...
however, I actually believe that if the Washington Nationals sort out that whole problem with Alfonso Soriano, they will get the NL East Title...
They have young guys who can produce. I mean these guys could prove to everyone they are underrated. I like Schneider as a catcher, and he's catching for team USA in the WBC. I like the speed they have too.
With the two Marlons coming out of the dugout to fill in, its not much of a step down. They are 2 great backups.
I like their pitching staff too, but they could work on getting some relievers...
The Braves will win the Wild-Card... and make the world series in a REALLY CRAPPY National League this year.
The American League should and will dominate Inter-league, All-Star game, and World Series in 2006.SAN ANTONIO SPURSComment

They somehow finished 81-81, but were outscored by 34 runs. Personally I don't think they're that good of a team overall. I see a sub .500 record this year and possible 3rd place finish.Comment

Re: Who will win the NL east?
The "Braves are going to win because they always do" argument doesn't work for me.
What have the Braves done to get better? They added Renteria and obviously the younger guys will get better, but other than that have they done anything else?
The Mets have added Delgado, Lo Duca, Julio, Wagner and will have Beltran healthy for a full season. These aren't just a bunch of stars the Mets decided to buy they're legitimate players who fill big needs. I have a hard time believing these additions don't make them 7 wins better than last year.Comment
