    Selig to investigate Bonds

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2370762

Well Bud, you're a day late and a dollar short. And what is there to investigate? He's already admitted to taking them. So unless Bud can turn up photographic evidence of Bonds injecting himself with steroids, and then prove that he knew they were steroids, I don't see how this investigation is going to prove anything that everyone doesn't already know, but which is essentially unprovable.

What's the point? Just to appease Congress? IMO, someone should investigate Selig instead of Bonds. Barry has been judged guilty in the court of public opinion, but Selig knew that steroid use was prevalent and did nothing about it because the McGwire/Sosa HR race brought fans back to the game.

I want an investigation of Selig. What he knew, when he knew it, and why he hid it from the public while letting us fawn over the accomplishments of two such blatant cheaters. Bud suckered the fans back then and we're going to entrust him with conducting a steroid investigation of Barry Bonds? Please. Bud Selig can kiss my ***.

This sums up my feelings perfectly. I remember when the steroid hearings were going on that there were reports that Selig knew of the rampant use of steroids and other such enhancers for a long time but swept it under the rug to sucker the fans back to the game. It just goes to prove "once a used car salesman, always a used car salesman".

i still say baseball never had a true commish after Giammanti died... Selig former owner now "commish"? i dont think he really understands the term "best interests of the game"..

He screwed up, plain and simple, but he has a chance to make up for it. I really don't know what he can do through "investigating" Bonds but if this book is full-proof and what is in it cannot be disputed, could he invoked the "Best Interest of the Game" clause and ban Barry? I'm sure the Union would love that...

This what I have been saying all a long. Baseball knew about steroids. And didn't want to do anything about it, because of the seats it was filling! The sad thing is it is all about money! Baseball could have stop this before it got out of hand. I'll tell you this Bonds wasn't the only player taking steroids. The truth is steroids became a big put of the game. Canseco was not lying when he said a lot of people were taking them!

Also, what about Roger Clemens did he take steroids, he is doing the exact thing Bonds is doing number wise! I hope Baseball cleans it up, but it will not be easy!

the ticker on the bottom of espn pretty much said that bonds wont get in trouble unless he gets busted for perjury or tax evasion

I can't see the tax evasion being very provable and really it has nothing to do with Baseball. The perjury case can be made as evidence has come to light that Bonds KNEW what he was taking and why.

                  Re: Selig to investigate Bonds

The 'Best interest of Baseball" would have been to investigate players in the early 90's when it was first obvious that guys were juicing. The 'Best interest of Baseball" would have also been to institute some sort of policy banning the substances back then. You can not retroactively institute policy and rules now. Major League Baseball knew about performance enhancers long before Mcguire, Palmiero, Sosa and Bonds. It's so hypocritical of both, MLB, the media, and fans to now act so betrayed, when in '98, no one cared. They all loved to see the balls flying out of the park. It rejuvinated fan support and closed the book on one of the worst chapters in baseball history, the cancelling of the season, and World Series in '94.

In that case, he should be on the hook for suckering the people of Milwaukee into financing a new stady with false promises. He should be investigated for his relationship with Pohlad. Bud is so spineless its pathetic. He constantly sticks his finger in the wind to see which way public opinion is going. Anyone remember when he was actually contemplating readmitting Pete Rose back into baseball and then backed off because of the complaints? Faye Vincent, where have you gone?

Personal opinion, I say leave Bonds alone for the past. Going forward, yeah, test him an everyone else. How can Bud investigate a player for breaking baseball rules that didn't exist in 1997? Bonds is just a scapegoat for the steroid era. I don't like the guy, but he wasn't the only one who cheated. Perjury is the main issue he needs to be investigated about.

Personally I think a lot of baseball purists are going to disregard a lot of the offensive numbers from the '90s.

I know they're illegal but since when does baseball decide to actually enforce the law? That hasn't stopped them from turning a blind-eye in the past. Just kind of irritates me.
