Right now I really am sick of ESPN...
On the night of the WBC Championship they show NIT Round 2 instead of the 1st inning. And their website headline is "Zags to riches". I was fuming from 8:15-8:40 when I had to watch freakin Michigan basketball. Good thing he hit that shot...University of Evansville Graduate

They also did a nice job with the highlights on Sportscenter. They spent the whole clip mocking the Japanese names. The WBC should look for a new broadcast partner in 2009 because ESPN clearly doesn't take it very seriously.Comment

As for the WBC, had a team they believed Americans cared about (USA or Dominican Republic) they'd have cut from the NIT. However, when it is a game between Cuba and Japan, I am presuming they felt there'd be more interest in the NIT than WBC.Comment

Regardless of who was playing, I don't think ESPN was cutting from the NIT game.

Re: Right now I really am sick of ESPN...
Their coverage of the WBC was a joke. You would think they would have hyped it up some to increase interest since they were carrying it. They didn't even stay with the broadcast long enough to show us the medal presentation at the end, which was just stupid. A network would never leave the Superbowl or World Series before the trophy was presented. Instead ESPN had to get right to Sportscenter to tell us all about their crappy NIT games.Comment

Re: Right now I really am sick of ESPN...
Not once in my lifetime can I recall ESPN ever leaving a game early regardless of what was to follow or how lopsided the score may be. Have I seen them start telecasting the game or event early on ESPN2 or some other ESPN affiliate, yes, and then they have switched over to the intended station when the overriding telecast ended. But I don't remember a single time where they have left a game -- especially one that was in double overtime -- for another. Expecting them to leave a marquee matchup like Notre Dame and Michigan in double OT for damn near anything is just stubborn. They have already pre-empted the US games a couple times in the WBC, so I wouldn't exactly say it was an issue of who was playing in the championship game.Comment

I am going to have to disagree though, had the WBC Final been between USA and the DR, they would have at the very least moved the Michigan/ND game to ESPN2.Comment
