I'm not saying Rose should be let in because he (Hasn't been proven) did not bet on Reds. I'm saying camparing the offenses: Drugs use(multple) and or other felonies are not keeping players out. Then a Legal activity in the states should not keep Rose out.

Re: Pete Rose: In or Out?
In. The guy was the most prolific hitter in baseball history. If that doesn't earn entry into the Hall, then the Baseball Hall of Fame isn't worth sh*t.
Ty Cobb bragged about killing a man, yet he's in the Hall. Rose isn't.
As for the "integrity of the game," a guy who uses drugs and is on rehab -- while still on the team payroll -- doesn't hurt the integrity of the game? Mickey Mantle -- R.I.P. -- staying out all night and getting hammered and then showing up to the field hung over and going through the motions -- that doesn't hurt the integrity of baseball?
Gaylord Perry cut, hacked, sanded and spit the hell out of baseballs before he pitched them. That doesn't betray the integrity of the game? F*ck, that's outright cheating on the field. Yet he's in the Hall, and Rose isn't.
Yeah, OK. Whatever.
Take care,

Re: Pete Rose: In or Out?
PK, nobody is doubting the fact that over the years there have been many jerks, lowlifes, whatever you want to call them, in the game. They, however, did not do the one thing that Pete Rose supposedly has. They did not bet on the game of baseball, and most likely, on their own team. If they did (like Shoeless Joe) they're not in the HOF. Yes, Gaylord Perry scuffed, spit on, wiped his nose on, and Lord knows what else, the ball, but so have 75% percent of the pitchers in the big leagues. The only difference is that he often got caught. Also, I haven't seen an official major league rule that says "thou shalt not scuff the ball," (although there may be one, but I don't think it's punishable by a lifetime ban) or "thou shalt not be a complete idiot." If there were one, we wouldn't be discussing this because Bud Selig wouldn't be in charge . Pete Rose did something that, like others have said, is expressly forbidden and hammered into baseball players from the time they first enter the minors. And yes, drunks, wife beaters, etc. do ruin the integrity of the game, but they don't ruin it at the fundamental level that betting on the game, and especially games that you're involved in, do.Mario Kart Wii: 1203 9969 5095

Re: Pete Rose: In or Out?
How so Matrix? Because he brought up an argument that holds no water when you look at the written rules of the game? The rules forbid betting on baseball. They don't forbid being a jerk or a drunk. Last time I checked, Pete Rose received a lifetime ban for gambling on the sport. I could care less if Shoeless Joe threw the world series instead of some regular season games. They both compromised the fundamental principles of the game, and they both deserve the punishments they got. If Pete Rose is able to clear his name, I'll be the first one to say he belongs in, but until that time, he doesn't deserve the honor.Mario Kart Wii: 1203 9969 5095

To be fair to Shoeless Joe he did hit .375 while setting a major league World Series record with 12 hits, including the only home run hit during the entire Series.
His appears to be a guilt by association. Yes he knew of the fix. He also told Comisky about the fix and tried to get him to bench him during the world series so he would not be involved.
He even had a famous quote...
I am going to meet the greatest umpire of all -- and He knows I'm innocent.

Re: Pete Rose: In or Out?
Thats true, there is no rule against being a jerk, but wasnt it Ty Cobb who killed a guy??? I dont know thats even worse than "breakin the rules"?

Re: Pete Rose: In or Out?
Out.
In every clubhouse, there is a scene decrying betting on the game. Iy is the cardinal sin in baseball.
Fitting somebody mentioned Shoeless Joe. Baseball is so no tolerance because those early scandals nearly destroyed the game. If there is noe thin as player should NEVER do, it is bet on the game.
They know this, and Rose did it anyways. He even bet on his own team. He was bad for baseball 13 years ago and his refusal to apologize despite the mountains of evidence hurt the game. This stand no differently now.Comment

Agreed BD. Shoeless Joe was on the wrong team at the wrong time. I give him credit for playing hard and well during that series, but he should have refused to play. Sad story really. I must have seen "Eight Men Out" about 20 times. Good movie.Mario Kart Wii: 1203 9969 5095

He bragged about killing a guy, and yes, in life, that is far worse than gambling. If he had been arrested for kiling someone, maybe things would have been different. I get the feeling that character wasn't as important for HOF qualifications back then. Now, like with Kirby Puckett getting in on the first ballot, it can play a big part.Mario Kart Wii: 1203 9969 5095
