Re: My all-90's team
Originally posted by camulosWetteland's stats are really more impressive than I thought they would be. He averaged almost 37 saves/yr from 92-99 and had an ERA under 3.00 in all but the last year of that stretch. Hoffman was good from about 95 on and the Eck in the early 90's but Wetteland would be my pick for the whole decade.
I checked out the numbers and Wetteland did have a better career then Hoffman in the 90's. I'll change that.

And the debate could have raged on. BUT Larkin played more games at Shortstop than Ripken. Remember, Ripken moved to 3rd base in 97. Which to me gives Larkin the close edge. Now if this was the 80's I would have definately gave it to Ripken. Even over Ozzie Smith.I have more respect for a man who let's me know where he stands, even if he's wrong. Re: My all-90's team
I'd also take Larkin, simply because I think he was a better player. Ripken was a solid player but much of his fanfare comes from the longevity of his career, not necessarily the quality.

Re: My all-90's team
I would have picked Ryne Sandberg at second he is a better defensive second baseman and a better hitter both for average and power. And he's a class act he plays the game with respect unlike Alomar who has spit in the face of an umpire thats just my pick“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

Re: My all-90's team
Why do so many baseball fans rely SO much on numbers and stats?
All I know........
During the 90's if I have one game to win I have Pedro Martinez starting and if I need one save I have Mo Rivera on the hill."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Same case can be made for Rivera and Wettland. I would have definately taken Rivera between 97-99 BUT Wettland was the best closer of the decade. AND remember, who did Rivera setup games for when he moved to the bullpen? Wettland!I have more respect for a man who let's me know where he stands, even if he's wrong.
