If Rollins breaks Maggio's record, it won't be received as well historically because

1. He didn't do it in 1 season like MAggio's streak (the most important reason)
2. With the steroids controversy the level it's at right now, there's people who'll think he didn't do it cleanly and will use this reason to cover up number 3 which is

Itll be a seperate record. Theres consecutive games with a hit in one season (Dimaggio) and then for multiple season.

Lets not forget he still needs to hit in 20 straight games to break it. Thats not exactly easy to do.

Yes. But it's definitely harder to do it over two separate seasons.

Itll be a seperate record. Theres consecutive games with a hit in one season (Dimaggio) and then for multiple season.

Lets not forget he still needs to hit in 20 straight games to break it. Thats not exactly easy to do.

I didn't know there would be separate records if Rollins does it. All my baseball fanhood knowledge on longest hitting streak is the 56 game hit streak is by DiMaggio in one season. I never thought 2 seasons can count.

They're already doing an investigation because Bonds is close to the HR record. It wouldn't shock me if they look into Rollins hit streak as a precaution if he gets close.

I'm just putting that precautionary investigation scenario on him out there because those MLB bigwigs are only concerned about the purity of baseball records NOW. I'm just thinking what those bigwigs who are investigating the steroid issue could do when Rollins gets close.

Actually, it's a common misconception that steroids only have to do with HR's. That's not true at all.

Steroids help players recover faster from injury, keep players fresh the entire season (ie: they never hit "the wall"), in some instances help a player see the ball better etc.... It's not just about muscle mass and hitting HR's. See many of the players who got caught using last year.

With that said, there's no reason for me to think Rollins did them.

This whole steroid issue is getting out of hand. The League needs to find a surefire way to test for human growth hormones. Now, personally, I dont think Rollins is taking them. I think he is a tremendous athlete. But there are a ton of other players who are obviously pumped up.
