    Cincinnati?

Is it just me, or is Cincinnati getting lost in all the Brewers and Tigers press? I think they are every bit as much a sleeper for 2d or 3d in the NL Central. Their lineup has great potential with Freel, Griffey, Dunn, and Kearns. Arroyo could get a good advantage from the new division, though overall, I think their pitching would give in...but it is far from impossible.

As a Reds fan, it's nice to hear this from other people, but sadly is not true. The Reds simply have little pitching to sustain a late summer run. The bullpen is atrocious and the starters are not much better. The offense was the no. 1 in MLB last year, but it doesn't matter when your pitchers give up 7-8 runs a game. Plus, the defense is not great (Dunn in left, Encarnacion at 3rd). Not to mention Griffey may already be hurt.

The Reds are going nowhere this year. They have no pitching. They have mediocre defense. Their bullpen sucks (though I am a David Weathers owner). Their offense is pretty good. That's about it. They have a lot of work to do before even approaching respectability..

Not to sound like a biased fan but I think there offense is more than pretty good, I would say it is top notch. (hey when your team doesn't get to the playoffs much, you try and get every credit possible )

I don't think there has been enough talk but I suppose it is because everyone knows this won't last long, the pitching just is leagues behind what it needs to be to get us to the playoffs.

            Re: Cincinnati?

I concur with my fellow Reds fans. Offense is really a great one, pitching overall is something to be desired. They'll win some games they shouldn't and lose some they shouldn't. I imagine we'll see more games than we want to see like the one yesterday against the Cubs. The key to all of it is the light at the end of the tunnel. The right people will continue to be brought in to make this a contending club one day.

They are a decent team now. I'm expecting around a .500 record. We still need pitching help, but I guess you can't expect anything spectacular with our homepark. But we are going in the right direction and hopefully it's only an upward thing now.

I thought we weren't getting as much press as the Brewers and Tigers, but then again, we're only 5-3 now. Both those guys started out 5-0.

Offensivley the Reds are very good, unfortunately so are the Cardinals, Cubs and Brewers. The Reds downfall will be their pitching. When the weather heats up and the balls really start flying out of the parks that is when the Reds biggest weakness will be exposed. Eric Milton wil give up between 40-50 HR's, Arroyo and Williams will get roughed up a bit and the guys like Weathers, Chris Hammond, Rick White and Kent Mercker will probably be dealt by the end of july. I think this is an evaluation year for the new ownership and front office, to see what they have and what they will need. Next winter i would expect to see the Reds start to build a contender.

                    I think we all agree.

                    FOREXAMPLE
Cubs blow a great season by lee and barrett (why was he rested today when he is hot like for real?) because the pitchers are broken.
The cards have lost something (though my early sleeper pick for CY is Marquis), maybe rolen gets hurt...what if Pooholes got injured?
Arroyo has a ridiculous year, one of those Kent Bottenfields, but with longer hair and a rock band. Griffey stays healthy, Dunn doesn't get too fat and hits better than .225, Harang shows up, Freel hits over .310, and they make a big move b/t June and August to get some real help...

                    Will it happen...doubtful, for real.
Even if they got 2nd in the Central would they go to the playoffs? not likely...I never said anything about playoffs, even though stranger things have happened, i just said 2d in the central. I think 2nd in the central will have a hard time keeping up the beatings that NY and ATL are going to put on Florida, DC, and Philly...what a load of crap that division is...

Here's to the NL CENTRAL, the best division in baseball.
