you sure it wasnt a rumor?

B/c ESPN reports that Cashman is mulling over a deal that would send Nick Johnson, Juan Rivera, Orlando Hernandez, and a prospect for Bartolo Colon.

That deal is worse than also gettin Javier Vasquez. My only guess could be that the Yanks don't wanna add Vasquez' contract and have no space for him in their rotation. which is true.

And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

I heard the Yankees rejected it, and I am glad. I also heard that the trade was for Colon or Vazquez. To give up all that talent and pay El Duque's salary for either one would be crazy. In Colon's case, he will be a free agent after this season, and will cost a ton to keep (if they could keep him). I like Vazquez a lot, but not enough to give up all those players. They didn't only want Johnson, J. Rivera, and El Duque (with the Yankees paying his salary), but they also wanted a top prospect. One can only wonder what they would have asked for to get Guerrero!

As for Clemens, I would sign him for one last season. The Yankees need to get a Cliff Floyd (or Matsui) for the OF and a righty relief pitcher to fill Mendoza's void.

Soriano has become a good second baseman, and has played the OF as well. I don't think there isn't anything this kid could do if he wanted to. They could pass on another OFer, move Soriano to the OF, and go after Kent for 2B. What a lineup that would be with Soriano, Jeter, Kent, Giambi, B. Williams, etc.

Ya, Yanks won't pay Hernandez's salary so the deal isn't happening, latest I've heard was one of the two will go from the Expos to the Red Sox, probably Colon. Pedro, Lowe, Colon, Wakefield, ? is pretty nice.

The Braves are still in contact with the Expos, according to the Braves' GM at least. He's one of the most creative GM's out there, so don't be surprised to see one of the Expos headed to Atlanta.
