Braves sitting on their hands--Stanton and others

    Stanton

The Mets continue to strengthen their team while the Braves continue to sit on their hands. The Mets might be close to picking up Neagle as well. The Yanks may be close to a deal for Colon. I haven't heard of any deals the Braves are trying to make. I realize that the whole AOL Time Warner thing has them leary of spending money, but if they don't watch out, at least two teams in the NL East are going to pass them by.

I also just read that the Cardinals just got Tomko from the Padres. I had heard that was another Braves possibility. Also, the D-Backs picked up Dessens who is a pretty good number 3 guy. I have this bad feeling that the Braves are not going to be able to resign Maddux. I don't like the way this is looking.

Some reports I've read lately point to Maddux accepting arbitration from the Braves, with Scott Boras attempting to win an $18-19 million dollar deal for one year. That would really tie the Braves' hands as far as signing someone else.

Reports from the Atlanta-Journal Constitution also state that John S. is currently dealing with a couple of teams on some trades, and that we might know by the end of today what the outcome of those talks are. Check it out at www.ajc.com, then click on the Braves link on the left hand side under "Sports".

I'm guessing that there are still some moves to be made... our team has one of the most creative GM's out there, and he'll find a way to put a good team on the field, despite AOL and all of the b.s. that comes with 'em.
