    Oh Man ESPN

Let me start off by saying that Baseball Tonight is my favorite thing on ESPN. I love Karl Ravech... Gammons...Kurkian...Olney...Reynolds. They always seem to work in at least one idiot each show though.

Sometimes its Rob Dibble... sometimes Steve Phillips...soemtimes Jeff Brantley... and sometimes John Kruk (who I actually like except for his outrageous claims that he often makes)

I dont know if anyone saw..but tonight we were treated to Kruk, Brantley and Phillips. A recipe for disaster.

So Ravech poses this question... if you had the #1 pick to start a team...who do you pick.

Even with these guys I still expect somewhat reasonable answers. These would inclde Pujols, A-Rod, Santana, Cabrera, Wright, even Jeter or Eckstein who they get a hard on for usually I would not scoff at as much as this.

Kruk and Phillips both take Pujols to my delight. And Brantley takes:

    Jonathan Papelbon.

Dont get me wrong, the guy looks like a great pitcher...I;ve even got him on my fantasy team. But this is his first year...he's closed 9 games his whole career. And he will pick him first out of ANYONE in all of basebal if he had the choice?

    Yikes ESPN.

That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard in my life. And I was at the Laker game today.

I'd take Chris Ray over Papelbon easily, without second thought. And he picked Papelbon over anyone in baseball? Yeah, ok.

This is dumb. Papelbon projects as a legitimate #2 starter, while Ray projects as a good/great reliever. Good starters are always more valuable than relievers, unless you are talking about Mariano Rivera, which Ray is nowhere near.

In addition, I've seen Ray's mechanics on his pitching delivery, and it certainly seems like he is begging for shoulder/elbow problems. Papelbon, on the other hand, has fairly standard and clean mechanics that do not seem to increase his likelihood for injuries.

That means I had to hear a bunch of morons with their absurd comments for a good 4 hours, but taking Papelbon over everyone else? Brantley deserves to have his license to "analyze" revoked.

Brantley is awful.... everyone hates him... even his own co-workers.... one time while at the college WS... All the announcers walked in together, talking and laughing... guess who got the cold shoulder... yep that's right Jeff Brantley... they couldn't stand the guy... it was obvious then, and it's obvious now... he's a tool and probably despised by most fans as well as co-workers.

Brantley also said that Thome's bat is the reason the White Sox are where they are because "Konerko has gotten off to such a slow start." Now, I love Jim Thome and he's certainly been the biggest offensive force for the Sox but Konerko's hitting .360/6hrs/20 rbis.

Read the box scores Jeff. It's your job.

Too much time and too many people.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

I may be having a brain lapse but in your initial post you mentioned a guy named Eckstein? Please don't tell me you're talking about David Eckstein.
