    MLB Player's Poll

They're going to reveal it on the DP Show shortly, they're going to focus on the "Most Overrated Player" the most apparently on the show.

Two Yankees are high on the list, that's all the info they've said.

PS: I believe the poll is from SI, the same deal they did with college hoops a few months back.

Jeter was voted the most overated player in the game.

Interestingly enough he was also voted "Player I'd most like to have on my team."

Which kind of takes away from these polls all together.

I'm not surprised he'd get most overrated. He's a shortstop with average defense, a good but not great bat, who steals a fair amount of bases but not a lot, and plays in New York. If he plays anywhere else (except Boston) he's considered just a great player with no strings attached. Since he is in New York everyone hears his name all the time and gets sick of it. It also doesn't help that in probably the most watched playoff series in the past decade (ALCS 2004), he failed to deliver (aside from that big hit off of Pedro in game 5) which probably caused a lot of nobody's to sour on him.

The top three players were from New York (Beltran/ARod), which basically means that the other players think that the New York media and the city in general gets overhyped, which is true.

I wonder if ARod and Beltran woulda been 2 and 3 a few years ago.

I agree with Beltran and Jeter, but not Arod. Jeter is a very good player that has been hyped as an all time great due to his success and his team's success in the playoffs. Beltran, they talked about all his tools, etc when he really hasn't put up great numbers in his career. Before signing with the Mets, he was hyped more than any .260 hitter I've ever seen.

A-Rod takes crap from everyone, myself included, but I don't think he's overhyped. Maybe you can say he isn't worth $25 mil a year but the man is a beast at the plate and a very good fielder. He's been a consistent .300, 40 HR, 100 RBI hitter for the last 10 years. You can't argue with those numbers. He's also only missed about 8 games in the last 5 years.

I don't think A-Rod is overated either, but you can't argue that he's a horribly unclutch player. It's why he's my least favorite Yankee right now and I'm sure I'll never embrace him. What good is it to your team if you can't be "the best player in baseball" when they need you the most?

So if you look at it from that perspective I can see the overated argument.

2003-2005 Regular Season "Close and Late" situations

ESPN.com defines "Close and Late" as when the game is in the 7th inning or later and the batting team is leading by one run, tied, or has the potential tying run on base, at bat, or on deck.
              Arod: .276 BA / .392 OBP / .553 SLG / .945 OPS
              Jeter: .249 BA / .352 OBP / .392 SLG / .744 OPS
              Huge advantage to Arod.

Now, let's examine their postseason careers:
              Arod: .305 BA / .393 OBP / .534 SLG / .927 OPS
              Jeter: .307 BA / .379 OBP / .463 SLG / .842 OPS
              Advantage Arod.

              Please stop with the nonsense.

To be fair, how many more postseason games Jeter played in?

To be eve more fair, most of Arod's success both in the regular season and post-season has come with his team in a lead. I mean, I can;t count how many times he hits a HR late with his team up 2 already. Also how many 2HR 5RBI games he has. He is no doubt a good player but very much overrated. Clutch situation, i'd rather have Jeter up there instead of Arod.

I'd rather have Jeter up than A-Rod.. but for a Yankee fan not to embrace A-Rod is just ********.

I'm not a Yankee fan but I like Arod as a player, no doubt. When he is on he is one of the best. I do think they should embrace Arod, but lets face it he ALMOST never comes up big when he has to. I think that's where they are turned off by him. I still think some take it too far, but I can see where they are coming from.

That's your problem, you think Jeter earned his rep in 2003? C'mon man.

Plus anyone who even remotely follows the Yankees know Jeter had an atrocious year w. RISP in '04.

no, but you can't live on what you did in 99 when it's 2006 now and Jeter hasn't done much in the postseason since '00. Thats my problem with the people who can't stand A-Rod.

I know Jeter had an atrocious year with RISP in '04. It's still no reason to hate A-Rod. He came up huge in 2004 for the Twins series and the first 4 games of the Red Sox series.. I mind you Jeter was just as much in fault for that as was A-Rod.. even more fault for Jeter.

Probably doesn't count because it was against the Devil Rays though.
