I've been debating this exact thing with a Pirates fan on another site for nearly a year now. He claimed Lloyd McClendon was the reason for all the losses the past few years for the Pirates (never mind the manager before Lloyd lost as well and Leyland lost his last few years in Pittsburgh). He thought Jim Tracy would get the Pirates a minimum of 15 more wins this year. Now that the Pirates are off to their worst start since 1955 (8-22, soon to be 8-23), he's still saying the problem was the former manager and still believes the Buc's will win 86 games this year.
Ugh.... Sorry for the off topic rant, but I can't stand when people blame everything on the manager. It's all about the talent in the long run.Comment

If that's not the definition of delusional, I don't know what is. Not that there's anything wrong with being a homer, but you need to keep it within reason.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: "Significant Changes" coming for Royals
Isn't George Brett a minority owner? I wouldn't mind if he was put in the GM spot. That is, if he actually wants it. I say bring back as many people with connections with the glory days of the Royals and give them some power to change things around.
It would kill two birds with one stone:
1) have a meaningful shakeup
2) gives the changes some credibility and fan support (at least initially)Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Back to topic: adding George Brett to the Royals front office would be a huge addition, not just for the team but for the fans as well. Brett was always a great competitor on the field and could bring that intensity back to the Royals.Comment

Re: "Significant Changes" coming for Royals
the Significant Change the Royals need is to get rid of owner David Glass. The dude takes all the money he receives from revenue sharing and pockets 99% of it, instead of flooding most of into the team/stadium like he should. This is just a smokescreen to keep the heat off his a$$. New gm, new manager, new players won't matter until they get an owner who's willing to drop some coin.Lux y VeritasComment

Allard Baird is a tough guy to be mad at, though. He is very passionate about making this team better — he truly does care. He personally answers almost every fan e-mail he receives. When my family went to San Diego a few years ago to see the Royals play the Padres, my dad and I were able to talk to him for a while (Allard was observing warmups from the field). He's such a great guy, but his performance leaves the Royals no choice.
I really hope we can turn this thing around somehow. It's so tough being a small market team, but that excuse can only go so far.
