    Cubs suck.

God! Can we please score more than 1 run per game!?

Tonight was especially commical. I arrived at work today at about 4:30 and asked one of my managers (who's also a Cubs fan) how many runs the Cubs would score. He said 0 and a bartender (another Cubs fan) said 4. I laughed as I proceeded to say that the Cubs will score 1 run off of an Aramis Ramirez solo shot and lose in extra innings. Unfortunatley, I'm correct, as usual.

As for the rest of the season, here's how it will go (in case I'm not already stating the obvious).

The Cubs will loose AT LEAST 2 out of 3 for every series they have up until the All-Star break. They MIGHT, and I stress MIGHT win one series but its doubtful. They will be about 10-20 games below .500. Derrek Lee will come back and the Cubs will get on a bit of a run. They'll make a late season push for the playoffs but fall short in the end because of their lackluster start.

Final record...74-88... you heard it here. Lets revisit this post in October.

Any word on when Prior and/or Wood will be coming back? Zambrano should be better than he has this season as well...
    I do because I can, I can because I want, I want because you say I can't

I've god a few words on Prior and Wood...who give a flying crap. They both suck anyway. We pay Wood $10,000,000 every year (literally) to sit on the DL. When he does play he may strike out 7 every time he pitches but he walks about 12 and allows about 6-8 runs. He's never won more than 14 games in a single season. As for Prior, that guys a joke too. He had one good year (2003) and is the most injury prone player I've ever seen. Its simply the way he throws the ball. He will continue to injure himself every time he comes back off of the DL.

It usually takes until about the All-Star break for me to get down on the Cubs but this year its happened quite quickly. They suck and they suck bad. Worse than I've seen in a long time. Here's to next year!

        This is news?

Your offense sucks....I can't believe how many Cubs fans saw Jacque Jones as some kind of huge improvement and expected him to hit .275-.290....

        Gimme a break...Giiimme a break...break me off a piece...of whatever you are smoking...

Anyways...without offense, you can't score runs. If you can't score runs, you can't win. With the passion that the Cubs pitcher's have, I almost feel bad for them. It's got to suck knowing your team can't back you up. I'm an M's fan, and I remember last year. Get ready for the long haul, because I expect this year for the Cubs to be remniscent of the M's last year. Doesn't matter how good your pitchers are if you can't score runs to support them. Prior, Wood, Zambrano, and Maddux should be combining for at least 70 wins a year, but stuck on the Cubs they won't break 50. Hell, I'd be suprised to see them break 45. I hope the Cubs get with it some time soon, because it doesn't take much from where they are right now to make a winning team and lower salary costs....A couple well played trades could spell success. Wood? I'm looking at you....to get the hell out of Chicago.Juan Pierre? I'm looking for you to team up with another outfielder from chicago to bring in an outfielder that can actually PRODUCE RUNS. On the surface, bringing Pierre in was a good idea....but without someone behind you to score runs...what's the point?

Cubs need to start building for the future...and they've done a nice job of it...now get rid of the can't-hack-it's!

They do have someone to knock in Pierre. But he has a broken wrist right now. Derrek Lee's injury affects the entire lineup. They can pitch around Ramirez now and its showing. Lee is the worst player that we could have lost. Worse than Maddux, Zambrano, or anyone else. I honestly would have rahter lost my entire outfield (Murton, Pierre and Jones) than Derrek Lee.

I'm sorry, but the Cubs do not have a good pitching staff.

It's Maddux, and that's it. And Maddux is going to start coming back down to earth soon enough (btw, in his last 2 starts, ERA rose from 0.99 to 2.35).

Zambrano is 0-2 with a 4.43 ERA...and it's May!!! That's not all the offense's fault, and if he keeps showing up his outfielders, he's not going to get better anytime soon.

Then there's Wood and Prior. Ha! Wood still hasn't pitched. Still returning from that surgery. Good thing he pitched that meaningless month out of the bullpen last year!!!!

And Prior, well he's still coming back from.......

Um, what's he coming back from, again?

Oh that's right, NO ONE KNOWS!!!!!!!!

So, that leaves Sean Marshall and Rich Hill and Angel Guzman to fill out the rest of the rotation. Yup. Three rookies. Marshall has done ok, but I think the next time he faces these teams will tell a lot about his pitching ability and his 87 mile per hour fastball.

Hill is on his second chance with the big team. Didn't go great the first time and after 1 start (4 innings against Arizona) is 0-1 with a 11.25 ERA.

And Guzman, while not injured, is 0-1 with a 5.91 ERA (2 starts, Pittsburgh and Florida...two powerhouses). Oh, and that's after he blazed through AAA this season putting up a 1-2 record with a 6.61 ERA. Not good.

Bottom line. The Cubs are a mess. Their pitching is a mess, their bullpen (save for Dempster) is a mess. And their lineup is a mess.

From what I can remember of Prior's injury history, he's not really injury prone. Last year a ball hit him in the elbow and he had to go on the DL because of it. That doesn't have anything to do with a chronic injury. If anyone is to blame for Prior having a bit of an injury issue, it's your POS manager, Dusty Baker.

True, he's had freak injuries (i.e., the broken arm from a line drive, the injury from the collision), but that doesn't explain what's wrong with him now.

Not a freak injury, not Dusty, not anything. There's been no diagnosis.

                It's Prior.

Honestly, I like this team far more than the last couple of years. I really feel however that Valentine would be better suited to manage a team like that Cubs are now. In any case, Ill take the young guys over Sosa-Alou-Prior-Wood. Im just enjoying the fact that the Cubs dont have Prior and Wood. And Im sick of people referring to them like they are a life raft. When have they ever been? Again, Ill take the younger guys who are trying to figure things out...you have to be patient with young guys and btw, letting these young guys play now may actually yield the Cubs being less reliant on Wood sooner rather than later.

                      Re: Cubs suck.

Everybody slow down, calm down and let's get it right...

First off NO ONE that I can remember was terrible excited when we got Jones...He was brought in because his D is good, and he was hoped to hit lots of doubles.

Yes, losing LEE was horrendous, but that is not the real problem...the problem is that Pierre is hitting .250, and when he has walked, of late our #2 guys has been a big series of nobodies. Walker was doing well in the 2 spot until Dusty moved him.

I think the season was going well until Dusty had to make a managerial decision. When he moved Walker to #3, it fell apart. He should have moved ARam or Barret to 3.

Zambrano has not pitched too poorly, nearly every loss has been a tough one. Our run production tanked when Lee went down, but he was not carrying us at the time, we are simply not getting on base any more, because our "good" or "consistent" hitters are either not hitting (Pierre) or are too far apart, now that Lee is gone. Rather than bring up Murton or Barret, who could be serviceable in the 3-5 holes, Dusty decides to play F. Bynum (who?) and Perez in the 2 spot.

We have to sit around and hope the Cards, Stros, Brewers, and Reds get a bit of our injury bug.
                      Australian Rules Football...just sayin'

Wood has actually looked quite good in his 3 rehab starts(15 IP ERA under 3.00, 23 K).

I think he will be fine. He made subtle improvements to his mechanics which should help him from not having tightness in his arm during his starts.
