    Yankees to bean papi?

    First Paragraph reads

"THE Yankees have to droppy Papi. They need to brush the beast back. They need to pick out one of David Ortiz' chins and let a little music dance across the whiskers. And they need to do this immediately. Across the next three days, Randy Johnson, Mike Mussina and Shawn Chacon will each get three or four shots to put Ortiz on notice that, on behalf of the entire Yankee pitching staff, they are mad as hell. And they aren't going to take it any more."

    Thoughts?
18-1 hell of a season regardless

I think they do need to brush him back since he is constantly beating them, I just don't think May is the right time to do it. People put way too much stock in these Spring games between the Red Sox and Yankees.

If Johnson did it tonight, its almost guaranteed that Beckett would retaliate starting a whole lot of drama. The Yankees are playing very well right now and I don't think they want to mess with that and risk getting their own players hurt for a series in May.

I honestly don't think hitting Papi would do a whole lot. Then again I have never been hit by a Randy Johnson fastball.

It would just seem to me that he would step right up in the same spot he's always at, hug the plate, and still play his game.

Exactly. Throwing at him is just as likely to break him out of this slump, which I don't think they really want to do. The more I think about it, the dumber this article is.

Hmm lets throw at a hitter who has 1 hit in his last 20 at bats which could piss him off enough to break out of his slump, piss Beckett off enough to bean one of our guys (Jeter or Arod) and possibly injure them, not to mention putting Ortiz on base for Manny who's hitting the ball very well right now.

For those two hours, Martínez, the Mets star known for his intensity and cleverness on the mound and his quirkiness off it, is in the yard outside his six-bedroom Tudor revival home in Greenwich, Conn. He is planting. He is pruning. He is talking to his tulips. "What about you, beauty?" he will ask in language rarely, if ever, heard on a baseball field. "Aren't you going to grow up to be so pretty?"

                    LOL @ the Pedro article

Yankee fans over at NYYFans.com have been calling for a Papi beaming since last year, so I guess the writer just took it from there and ran with it.

I don't blame them. We've been saying the same thing about Matsui every time we face him after Pedro showed that it worked. It's just that there's a time and a place, and early May isn't it.

Not that I advocate intentionally hitting people because I dont, I dont understand how one of our guys hasnt hit him yet. He constantly DESTROYS us as he just hangs out over the plate. If one is at least sent at him, maybe the next time he'll be thinking about it in the back of his head and wont be able to lean over the plate like that with no fear.

I cant even recall one time that hes been hit against us intentionaly or not.

Then again, it usually is the Sox who hit our guys, not us hitting them.

Please do hit him. We've gotten beaned by them sooooo many times and yet never retaliate. Somebody has got to let him know if he going to crowd the plate he's going to have to pay. Roger Clemens would have done it. So why can't Randy Johnson?

                            They should.

The Yankees only won the division last year because they beat out the Red Sox 10-9 in the season series.

                            The games in May count.
