Re: Who is the best defensivle at each position?
Great book I heard about from Baseball America that takes the subjectivity out of it...I hope to be picking this up soon.
The Fielding Bible by John Dewan.

"The goal of this book is simple: to figure out how many plays each player makes relative to an average player at his position...A player gets credit if he makes a play on a ball that at least one other player at his position missed that season, and loses ground if he misses a ball that at least one other player at his position made. Each player starts with a score of zero, and his final score is the sum of all their plusses and minuses over the season, rounded to the nearest integer." - BA book review, pg. 35
Baseball Info Solutions takes everything into consideration, like direction, distance, speed and type of hit (grounder, fly, liner, bunt, etc.). For example, Orlando Hudson scored a +77 last year, the best in the game at any position. Soriano had a -40 at second. That means O-Dogg made almost 80 plays an average second basemen could not, and Soriano botched 40 that your average guy could make. Adam Everett scored a +33 to rank as the top SS. Torii Hunter was the best outfielder at +44, Rowand (+34) and Andruw (+26) followed for CFers.Comment
