Team SS 2B
Baltimore Tejada Roberts
Boston Gonzalez Loretta
New York Jeter Cano
Tampa Lugo/Perez Cantu/Wigginton
Toronto Adams/McDonald Hill
Tejada, Jeter and Lugo are all proven veterens offensively and defensively while Gonzalez and Perez are both proven defensively. That Leaves Adams and McDonald. McDonald is a veteren but his expertise is defense.
Only Loretta is proven at 2B while all the others have had one good season. So far everyone has come through with another good season but Hill and Cantu (who's on the DL)
There are many posible options:
1)Keep going with our present Middle Infield and hope they start producing
2)Switch Adams to 2B and Hill to SS.
3)Play McDonald more solely because of his Glove
4)Try to find and in house solution
5)Try to trade for one
As for #1 I don't really see any improvement in the 2 at the moment and I think time the streach run they're going to have to start looking at some other possibilites
It doesn't look like Gibbons feels like moving Adams to a new position at this point of the season so this isn't very probable.
Gibbons is already using #3 to some effect as Johnny Mac played all 3 games against Tampa on the weekend.
He's hitting just a bit worse that Adams but with a better glove. #4 is most intriging to me as there are many possibilities. Gregg Zaun, Frank Catalanotto and Troy Glaus have all played the MIF at some point of their carrers. Albeit Zaun has only play 3 inning of 2 games at 2B so he's deffenently not an option. As for the Cat and Glaus neither of them have played the MIF since 2002. Catalanotto seems most probable to move back to the Infield at 2B as he has played 155 career games at that, his natural position. Glaus has only played 10 games at SS, not starting any of them. Catalanotto moving to 2B would also allow Hinske and Johnson more starts in the outfield. Or we could look in the minors for either Ryan Roberts or Sergio Santos. But, Santon is hitting only .227 with 1 HR in Syracuse while Roberts isn't doing any better with a .224 BA and only 1 HR.
As for the last option I'm not exactly sure who's available but it would be hard to give away Hill or Adams, seeing as they areboth still young with potential.
For me, I would like to see #4 or atleast #2 but #1 and #3 are most probable.
