I have been a baseball video game freak ever since I glimpsed over an article in Nintendo Power about Bases Loaded for the NES. (you could actually charge the mound !!!)
Since then, I have played them all (Minus World Series 98 on the Saturn) and my favorites are the high heat series, and the now defunct VR Basebal from Interact. But I still remember a time when stadiums were stadiums, with 3d objects you could hit. Whee have those days gone?
One of my favorite "Baseball" games in the 8-bit era was Dusty Diamonds All Star Softball. Why. Your Long-Ball actually bounced off stuff. You could even break windows at the school yard. The only game I have seen since that offered this was VR baseball 1999 on the Playstation. I love this feature. I don't want to see my homer disappear. Half of the joy is seeing what you can hit or break outside the playing field. Do you think we will ever see a game like this again?
I sure hope so. It would seem that with the power of Next-Gen consoles, this should be a given. Look at Re Faction. The ENTIRE GAME is texture mapped. Why not 40-50 stadiums in our "modern" baseball video games?
