Having the best lineup or players doesnt always result in having the best team or most wins.

I don't think anyone was saying that. Just look at the Texas Rangers from the mid 90s who had great offenses but lost in the first round of the playoffs because they didn't have the pitching.

I know I may be a little biased but if a Phillies fan agrees that the mets have the most potent offense then it must be true, here is a rundown of each position:

        Catcher:

        NYM- Paul Lo Duca
        TOR- Bengie Molina

        Edge: Even

        First Base:

        NYM- Carlos Delgado
        TOR- Lyle Overbay

        Edge-Mets

        Second Base:

        NYM- Jose Valentin
        TOR- Russ Adams

        Edge:NYM

        Short Stop:

        NYM- Jose Reyes
        TOR- Aaron Hill

Edge:Even (Hill has the average but Reyes has the speed and RBI)

        Third Base:

        NYM- David Wright
        TOR- Troy Glaus

        Edge: NYM

        Left Field:

        NYM- Lastings Milledge/Cliff Floyd
        TOR- Catalanotto

        Edge:TOR

        Center Field:

        NYM- Carlos Beltran
        TOR- Vernon Wells

        Edge:TOR (slim)

        Right Field:

        NYM- Xaviar Nady/Lastings Milledge
        TOR- Alex Rios

        Edge:TOR

        FINAL RESULTS:EVEN

The Mets and Blue Jays are two very talented teams, fortunatly for the Mets, they are in an easier division. Both have very potent line ups. I do believe that the Mets have an edge in starting pitching and relief pitching. Toronto may have a better bench then the Mets.

          .
The Jays catching situation is more of a quasi platoon rather then Molina being outright #1 catcher. So by putting Gregg Zaun into the equation I think the Jays have the edge there.

Also about 3rd base, while Glaus doesn't have the greatest average he does provide protection for Wells and is a threat to hit a HR basically everytime he's at bat. So I think that's even rather then NYM having the edge.

It held up for the '04 Red Sox.

The Red Sox had more than one healthy quality starter. Janssen has been great, but your bullpen is heavily flawed.

yes, but he was talking about hitting potency, which we are atop the league in right now. Our pitching isnt too bad, halladay is as usual, lilly is sporting a 4.12 ERA after todays win, and Jansenn is doing well. our bullpen is definately suspect, with guys like frasor that were amazing a couple of years ago having ERAs of above 6, and our middle releif has been very bad for the most part. But theres the posistive side, where Burnett has recently made a start pitching 6 scoreless innings in his mino league assignement, and Ryan being nothing but lights out the whole year, the man has allowed 1 run the WHOLE year, and we're 3 months in almsot...
