Originally posted by rsoxKevin Gregg still has minor league options so the Angels could have sent him down and moved either Jeff Weaver of Kelvim Escobar to the bullpen (before anyone says anything Escobar is 0-5 in his last six starts). The Angels were stupid to sink $8 million into Weaver, the Dodgers and every other team avoided him like the plague all winter, the Angels should have taken that as a sign.Comment

Re: Jered Weaver optioned to Triple-A
This where most teams would use the phantom DL move. Jeff Weaver isn't pitching well, so claim he has elbow tendinitis or a tired arm and put him on the DL. At the end of the 15 days they should know what to expect from Colon for the rest of the season.Comment

Re: Jered Weaver optioned to Triple-A
Originally posted by BigRedI don't know the entire situation, but in order to activate Colon, the Angels have to create a spot within the 25 man roster for him. Simply putting Jeff in the bullpen does not help that situation.
And you can't send Jeff down to AAA, since he's not eligible (options-wise), unless he were to be put on waivers first. In this case, it's possible the Angels could lose him for nothing.
Anyway, look for the Angels to make a trade here pretty soon to open a spot for Jared.
By keeping Jered in the lineup, and Jeff on the bench, the Angels don't improve at all, and they miss the playoffs. Now is the time to make a transaction, so at this point its more important to raise Jeff Weaver's value, than it is to win a couple more games with Jered Weaver.SAN ANTONIO SPURSComment

Re: Jered Weaver optioned to Triple-A
Actually Jeff Weaver has pitched very well in his last 5 starts so sending him to the bullpen or putting him on waivers probably wouldn't be the smartest thing to do. Jered Weaver has pitching amazingly well and he's very talented but there's no way that he pitches this well the whole year. I would keep the experienced pitcher in my rotation. Also, If Colon continues to struggle and doesn't recover from his injuries then they can just call up Jered. IMO the Angels made a pretty good move. I'm sure that the angels will try to trade one of their starters for some offense and call up Jered anyway.Comment
