More steroid talk from a former Red Sox?

Interesting read. This part made me think of the Pirates pitcher Oliver Perez, who has lost 4-5 MPH off his fastball and movement/velocity from his slider:

"That was the big thing with pitchers -- a combo of Winny and Deca," he told ESPN The Magazine. Winny would improve your fast-twitch muscles and help you gain velocity. Deca, which is oil-based, would keep your tendons and joints lubed up and make you feel better the next morning.

"When I started using, I noticed my fastball jumped from 92-93 to 95-96 m.p.h. But the biggest change for me was consistency. My breaking pitches had more velocity and sharper break."

I'm sure other's have noticed pitcher's that don't have the same stuff as in the past, but none are popping into my mind immediately.

Interesting how some of these guys are taking a pre emptive approach to their steroid usage. Should be interesting to see how many others come forward in the wake of the Grimsley scandal.

With everything that has happened in the past three years -- the past eighteen months especially -- I have no doubt in my mind that everyone in that article who claims to have had no idea what was going on, where very well aware of it and/or using themselves.

Well I believe Wakefield, after all Wake's fastball tops out at 80 MPH, and he throws Knuckleballs, so he wouldn't really need any "helpers" now on Varitek's account I'm sure being a catcher he would have a clue what's going on yes, Tek is a guy I would love to believe and look up to being a Captain but he knew of stuff going on. But I don't see Wakefield, Varitek, or Nixon taking performance enhancing drugs, Nixon has gotten skinnier, he's had the best average of his career so far. Only guys I could ever see using roids from former/current sox are Nomar, Hillenbrand and Kapler.
