I'm guessing those players to be named laters are going to be big prospects otherwise REAL dumb for TB.

I doubt it. And I don't know how "dumb" it is.

      Dodgers get:
-Hendrickson, who has a 3.81 ERA, 51K/34BB, 1.28 WHIP, and could be good in the playoff stretch for the Dodgers. But what did Tampa need with him? He has a $1.95 Million salary this season, and is 32 with only two more years on his contract. Is Tampa going to be a solid contending team in that last year of his deal, when he is 36? Doubt it.

-Toby Hall, who had so much hype around him for the last five or six years, and he just never "got it". He is now 30 years old, $2.25 salary, and just average at best.

      -$1,000,000

      Devil Rays get:
-Jae Seo, who is incredibly inconsistent. He will have one good start, and then follow it up with two bad ones. He is 29, and looks like he might never catch on. He wouldn't be awful as a guy out of the pen or a 5th starter on a contending team. He does strike out a fair amount of guys.

-Dioner Navarro, is the key to this trade. He is only 22 years old, and has played solidly in the little he has played in the big leagues (.280 average, 5 HR, 25 RBI, 28 R, in 250+ ABs). He has great potential ahead of him, and finding a great catches is never easy.

If Hendrickson helps the Dodgers win the West, then its a good deal for them. But this could be a really good deal for Tampa, regardless of how well Hall or Hendrickson does in LA.

Navarro is a stud, just needs playing time and to stay healthy. It's a good deal for the Rays.

Whether good or bad, this doesn't sound like a trade TB would sign off on. This is the team that asks for your two best prospects when asking about Julio Lugo last year. They've killed so many deals by coveting everyone's top young talent that I'm not sure they're high enough on Navarro to do this trade...especially when there's no decent pitching to be had and Hendrickson has had a good year.

Good for the Orioles because it gets Hendrickson out of the freakin' divison. He's dominated us for the last 3 years.

But anyway, I like the trade for the Rays. Navarro is a very good young catcher who will be there for many years to come, and Seo is a good pitcher when he's on. Navarro makes this a great trade for Tampa.

When I first saw TB/LA trade, I thought Crawford. This is just a minor deal, it will help LA in the short run but help Tampa in the long run.

I think it was a good trade for both sides. Toby Hall really needs a change of scenery so hopefully going to LA will help him.

As others have said Navarro is the key to this deal.

Personally I think TB got the best of this deal by far.

                  1. Seo is better then Hendrickson....maybe not this year but compare their past 3 years. BIG difference. Also Seo is 3 years younger.

                  2. I don't understand why the Dodgers downgraded from Navarro to Hall. Navarro has the potential to be one of the best catchers in the majors (he's only 22). Hall is 30 and he's not getting any better or any cheaper.

Navarro is by far the best player in this trade IMO.

"Lurch" will be good for the Dodgers rotation. As a solid #3-5, he'll give them quality innings as he has this year for the Rays. Going to the easier NL will be a plus too. Don't know much about Seo, but I think he's a bit of a downgrade from what I've read.

Hall has just never fulfilled his potential. He's just an average catcher, not bad nor good. Navarro has some real potential and I think he's the reason the Rays did the deal. Hopefully it works out for both clubs.

                      Seo's career ERA - 4.13

                      Hendrickson's career ERA - 5.01

Seo had better defense's behind him but I still don't see a downgrade.

LA got ripped off. They gave up a 22 year old switch hitting catcher for an average catcher and a mediocre pitcher.

The way everyone is talking about the Dodgers getting ripped off with losing Navarro it seems everyone here has forgotton about Russell Martin. Toby Hall will be nothing more than the backup Catcher for the Dodgers.

That makes the trade look even worse for the Dodgers. Why not get someone who will actually play and help your team instead of an average backup catcher?

The deal was for Hendrickson, Hall was a throw in.
Hendrickson may not be great but he eats up innings and getting a left-handed innings eater was going to cost any team that got him.
