I actually remember that. I was hoping Mauer's career didn't take off, I can only imagine if FSU had him for 4 years over who they did.

That isn't entirely fair. The Blue Jays screwed Weinke hardcore when he didn't want to be a scab, that killed any chance he had of advancing past Triple A. For Weinke I am sure it worked out well, he signed a nice contract with Toronto which he invested extremely well, he went back to college got his degree and won a MNC and a Heisman Trophy, and now he makes a great living as a backup in Carolina, and from everything I have ever heard most believe he has a helluva career in coaching ahead of him when his playing (or backing up) days are complete.

I wasnt talking about contracts, or investmets..... The reason he advance past AAA is because he stunk. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/playe...s-Weinke.shtml

            Keep him at catcher.

Well the beauty of the American League is that Ron Gardenhire can give him days off and put him at DH.

I played catcher up until JUCO ball and I know first hand how your knees can get beat up. I'm obviously not the specimen Mauer is, but I think the Twins need to consider at some point in the near future about prolonging his career.

There have been whispers in the Twin Cities that Mauer could change positions sometime in his career. I've read articles in both papers, not only right after his knee injury but also just a few weeks ago. I forget wich paper the most recent article came from, but it mentioned how Mauer was taking infield practice at third. Who knows, maybe he was just shagging balls during BP so don't believe everything you read in the papers.

I think that Mauer has played third a couple of times this year. I am not 100% sure but I am pretty sure he has. There is no doubt that at sometime he will change positions but I don't think it is as necessary as some think.

                    Nope, just catcher and DH.

I agree, but until the Twins draft or develop a catcher in the minors its not going to happen. That is probably the weakest area of the Twins farm system. What the Twins should do is talk to the Angels about Jeff Mathis (because Napoli looks to have gotten that job) and groom him to be the catcher of the future and move Mauer to either third, or a corner OF spot.
