    freddy sanchez....dude is unreal

he's on 13 games hitting streak. just went 3-4 today with a walk off home run. his batting avg is .354

is this a fluke...is he foreal? when was the last time the pirates had somebody hit for an average like this?

Last time the Pirates had a batting champion was Bill Madlock (80's).

I think Sanchez is for real. He was a pretty good prospect in Boston and he's shown nothing during his time with the Pirates for me to think he won't continue this. His hands are just too good at the plate.

I think he's a legit .330+ hitter. He'll never provide much power though (under 10 HR's per year IMO).

      *yawn*

Yet another former Red Sox prospect or MLB player having a stellar 2006 season. You can add him to the list of:

      Nomar Garciaparra
      Edgar Renteria
      Josh Bard
      Bronson Arroyo
      Pedro Martinez
      Johnny Damon
      Hanley Ramirez
      Annibal Sanchez
      Jay Payton?
      Chad Bradford
      Matt Murton

Am I missing anybody here? Probably..there's so many. The fact that the Red Sox are in first place and that they could still be a competent ballclub JUST with departed players is extremely impressive.

That is a testament to how good a General Manager Theo Epstein is.

After yesterday's performance - 4-5 with the game winning HR, Freddy is now hitting .363/.397/.527. Pretty nice numbers for a guy the Pirates had tried to replace last offseason and earlier this year.

He also has 5 HR's, 41 RBI and an OPS of .924.

The part I don't like is the 34 point difference in OBP. If he gets into a hitting slump, his numbers could fall to .300 and .330, and then he'd be an empty hitter.
