    Jeff Weaver to the Cardinals

Oh great another starting pitcher with an ERA over 6.00!

Weaver started to play good baseball the last month or so....

But I don't see him as the Cardinals savior.

Maybe he'll fare better in the NL w.o the DH.

Let's look at his NL numbers

        '04 and '05
        13-13 and 14-11
        4.01 and 4.22 ERA

Yeah he really does well in the NL

BTW the Jays had some interest in him but they weren't really big players either so it just goes to show that Weaver isn't all that great.

The ERA isn't terrible, and he'll have more support from the Cards lineup than he did from the Dodgers.

They traded a productive minor leaguer in Evans who broke out this year with a .310 avg 22 HRs 65 RBIs 26 SBs. What a dumb trade

Damn, how old is this kid and what class was he playing in? 22 dingers and 26 steals.

And the majority of that was as a 24 y/o in A ball. He was drafted 5 years ago and just got to AA. Strikes out a lot and he wasn't even a blip on the Cards radar screen as far as possible outfield help. Angels got rid of a guy they wanted gone, Cards got a pitcher who can't possibly be worse than Ponson/Suppan even if he continues pitching like he was in Anaheim.

He said "maybe" he will do well...

He didn't say he was going to win a Cy Young in the NL or anything.

Woooo! I can't believe we landed him.

You hit the nail on the head. Evans has ALWAYS been at least 2 years too old for the league he was in. He put up gaudy numbers, but when you facing undeveloped players 2-5 years younger than you, you SHOULD put up those numbers. I doubt Evans will ever do anything as a big leaguer, probably a 4th/5th outfielder at best, while Jeff Weaver has proven that he can be a solid 4th-5th starter in the big leagues. Weaver has had some off years, but has been very solid in others. It was a no lose situation for the Cardinals and I think a GREAT move by them. If they get 8 wins out of him and a ERA under 4.50, it was a steal for the Cards.
