Every day Eddie now a Red

The Mariners have traded Eddie Guardado and cash to the Reds for minor league pitcher Travis Chick

When I first heard about it, I wasn't very thrilled, but after thinking about the more, it really isn't a bad move at all for the Reds. Eddie wasn't happy behind Putz. Another Twin connection for Krivsky. They aren't giving up much and the M's are throwing cash the Reds' way as well. Eddie might be the closer they need for the rest of the year. Coffey might be more comfortable in a setup role. Still think the Reds need to bring up Homer Bailey and let him throw out of the pen

As a Reds fan, I wouldn't be thinking Eddie can be the closer they need for the rest of the year. Maybe Guardado from 2004 or the first half of 2005, but he's not that guy anymore. He was given every opportunity possible this season and failed in a big way. And it's not just that he's been losing leads or letting teams back into games, it's the number of baserunners that hurts (40 in just 23 IP). He's a tough, emotional guy, though, a real guts-over-stuff type of pitcher who will leave it all on the mound, but just how much he has left is a huge question.

I'll miss him, but we're better off without him. I've been giving Putz the eye for closer for about 2 years now, because he has a hot fastball and he's been awesome in tough situations. Now that he actually is the closer, and he's dominating, I'm pretty pleased. Eddie as a closer is a little far fetched nowadays. He'd probably do well as a setup man in the NL, but....closer? Don't get your hopes up. Eddie is the kind of guy that you love to have on your team even if he isn't doing well, so it's sad to see him go, but it's better for the team, so....

From the Atlanta Journal Constitution on the trade:

It’s been a rapid career decline for Eddie Guardado, the former All-Star closer who lost his job to a Putz and was traded for a Chick.

LOL...No, that isn't the specific reason why although that is the truth. It sure as hell makes that trade I did with diesel look a little better for me because it looks like crap with the way Hudson's been pitching! Eddie can't be any worse than what's gone out there so far for the Reds this year. By the way, the Reds always come first with me. Fantasy players second. Perfect world is both are successful somehow.
