Re: Homerun Derby thread
I think the HR derby is a really overrated event. It's basically the same thing you see all the time. Dude's hitting big shots over and over again.
MLB needs to spice up the day before the ASG events.Comment

Strongest outfield arm: You have an outfielder throw the ball on the run to homeplate to the catcher and the most accurate throw wins.
Most accurate catcher: Have a bullpen coach or someone like that throw a pitch to the mound while one of the fastest guys in the league tries to steal 2nd base. The catcher will have 5 tries at gunning the base runner out and whichever catcher has the best percentage wins.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Homerun Derby thread
Yeah, that HR Derby wasn't too great. It wasn't because of the stadium, either (and sometimes the stadium plays a big role in how good it is... look at how bland US Cellular Field was for one).
At the same time, it was good to see a batch of young guys. Jason Bay was the only really young one last year, and this year, the oldest participant (Jermaine Dye) was 32 years old. Granted, it's sort of bland to watch them now, but I want to see them do it all over again in 5 years.
Hopefully next year, Bonds (for his possible last year) will be asked to go at it at AT&T Park with guys like Pujols, Ramirez, Griffey, and Sheffield. That would be a dream HRD for me.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

And those are tickets in the 2nd deck. The outfield bleacher seats were going for over $300 per seat.Comment

Re: Homerun Derby thread
Has Adam Dunn even played in an ASG?
Honestly, I don't like seeing guys like Dye and Bay in HRD.
Do like the NBA where a player doesn't have to play in the ASG to be apart of the festivities.
Dunn and Hafner would've been great.Comment

Worth it to do it once -- especially cause in 20 years the Pirates most likely won't be here....Comment

Originally posted by jziccI was there -- 1st row 13 seats from the left field foul line (yea I paid about $250 ea) . It was worth it as my 8 year old son got a Derby ball (handed up from the field) and the guy 2 seats away caught a HR ball (I also made my ESPN tv debut).
