But it was just a story about how my Joe DiMaggio team was involved in a brawl with our "rival" city.
It's the same city as last year, but this time I was really a big part of it. This time, it was a beanball war. I led off the game, and I got hit by the first pitch that came to me (off of my thigh). No heat-moment, doesn't matter. But then their first batter was hit on the first pitch. Again... things acting sort of suspect, but we still let it go. There were a few hit batters here and there afterward, but there weren't any other type of first pitch hit-batsmen.
My third at-bat, I laid down a drag bunt for a hit, which was our first legit hit of the game. I don't know if their pitcher was pissed off or something for me breaking his no-hitter that way, but perhaps it was something else. He attempted to pick me off three straight times, and then I stole second on the first pitch. Then their shortstop had a little visit to the pitcher, and he tried to pick me off at second base, but there was no one covering. So, basically, he took a free shot right at me, which hit my shoulder.
Two pitches later, the same thing happened, but this time off of my helmet. I yelled a few words at him (after a timeout was called), and he yelled a few things back. I honestly couldn't hear him, but then he went into an outrage, got the ball from one of his fielders, and just fired it at our batter. He then threw down his helmet and charged the mound. I charged in there, too. Both of us went for the pitcher, but were sort of held up by fielders. It wasn't long before everybody (even including some parents) was out there. This one was much bigger than the last one, in terms of longevity, action, and even drama. I was not ejected. The pitcher was ejected, their coach was ejected, our batter was warned, a parent was removed, a player was taken away from I guess hitting an umpire.
I don't know why this happens with them. At the end of the game (which they won), we decided not to shake hands, and as we were leaving, some guys were trying to catch up to us again and start something else. Damn, they just wouldn't give up!
I have a lot of friends on that team. It's not like I hate the people. But, San Carlos (that's the city we played) really just thinks they're all that, and considers Belmont (us) weak, inferior, and a bunch of [expletive]s. I cannot believe people our age have to be involved in baseball brawls, but I was about finished after the great beanball war, and me being nailed twice intentionally at the bag (and yes, it was intentional).
Just sharing another story for you guys. I hope ya'll find them entertaining.
