Alfonso Soriano: Where is he going to play in 2007?

Does he really want to stay in DC? Does he want to move back to 2B? Does he want to go back to the AL?

If he wants to play 2B, who are the teams who would give him a shot there? Boston? Toronto? Detroit? Oakland? LAA? NYM?

If he wants the most money, who is going to be willing to pay a bunch? Boston? NYY? NYM? Houston?

What do you guys think? I don't know he is going to stay in DC or not...I wouldn't be shocked to see him in an Angels uniform next season.

Re: Alfonso Soriano: Where is he going to play in 2007?

After not trading Soriano at the deadline yesterday i think Jim Bowden HAS to re-sign Soriano. Bowden should have done what Doug Melvin did with Carlos Lee: try and re-sign him before the deadline if he refused the offer(s) than trade him, even if they could only get prospects for him at least they would have got something and Bowden could say he tried. Instead Soriano now holds all the cards and Washington has to make every effort to try and get him to stay or Bowden and Stan Kasten will look like complete fools for not getting anything for Soriano.

I read a story on ESPN where Jason Stark said that Soriano's agent is going to ask for a boatload of money and a no trade clause in the contract. He said that the no trade clause will be the big hurdle for the Nationals to overcome because Bowden doesn't give them.

I don't think the Red Sox will be interested because in the outfield we will have Manny, Coco, and Willy Mo and at 2B we have Dustin Pedroia who should be ready next year.

          Coco could be traded...

And then Ellsbury would be the Sox CF.

99% sure he wont be in Boston, on the Red Sox at least, next year.

I don't think the front office will give up on him this quick, plus he is starting to turn it around batting .333 over the last 7 days. I think the finger injury really messed him up and he's now just starting to feel comfortable.

He'll be with the Angels, they'll give him a "no trade" clause because they're THAT desperate for some kind of power in their lineup.

Remember, Stan Kasten is now the President of the Nationals and he's a guy that has been loathe to give out those kind of contracts no matter how good a guy is.

NY Mets, playing 2nd Base. Floyd and Trachsel come off the books. There salaries combined should be close to what Sori is asking. There is no way Minaya doesn't at least try to get him.

I voted Other, but the Nationals need to re-sign him, I just don't have faith in their front office.

He likely won't be in Boston. I don't think the Sox would be comfortable playing him or Wily Mo in centerfield full time. Plus Coco is relatively cheap, especially compared to the money Soriano will bring in.

Minaya will sign him and let him play 2nd base for the Mets.

I imagine Wily Mo will be the Sox regular RF next season as i do not expect them to re-sign Nixon at seasons end. And does anyone really want to see Manny Ramirez and Alfonso Soriano side-by-side in the OF? (shudders).

The big thing with this Sox front office is allocating team funds in a sensible way. Signing Soriano would go pretty much completely against that line of thinking, since A) Coco is signed for the next three years for 3 mill and change a year. B) If Coco was to be traded, Ellisbury or Murphy would take his place (two Red Sox prospects). C) Pedroia will be ready to play second next year. D) Wily Mo Pena will probably be our starting RF'er and will probably perform nearly as well minus the stolen bases.

So I'd be shocked if he was a Red Sox uni next year.

Mets because they always seem to sign the big name guys that the Yankees can't sign.
